Soulseek in trouble ? - * - 25th September 2005

From this thread over at ILM :

Quote:Heard from a source close to the author of Soulseek that everyones favourite P2P will be closing in less than a weeks time. The SLSK chat channel on IRC has been buzzing with speculation.

A rumour on some forum wouldn't be anything to worry about, of course, but there's also this :

Quote:The Recording Industry Ass. of America (RIAA) has told seven P2P software companies to get with the programme - or face the consequences.

The organisation, infamous for the thousands of lawsuits it has issued against alleged file-sharers, said it has asked the firms to shut down their networks or implement RIAA-approved anti-piracy measures.

The RIAA hasn't said which P2P networks it sent cease and desist letters to, but the Wall Street Journal yesterday named LimeWire, BearShare and WinMX, and it's not hard to guess who the others might be.

Oh well, if it's true this will speed up the development of the next generation of decentralized p2p networks... Twisted

another one will prop up.

we all need free access.

fuck money.

Soulseek in trouble ? - bhima - 25th September 2005

Thank god.

Can't stand all the P2P bollocks; it's killing the music industry and, when people download tracks from thier favourite drum 'n' bass artists who probably aren't making much from the record sales anyway, it's just sick. Hope they all crash and burn.

Soulseek in trouble ? - bhima - 25th September 2005

Well........

I meant that when people are trying to make a living from it rather than get a 9-5 job, and people are not supporting them, its a bit sad; they should help the artist so they can progress to higher things...

bhima Wrote:(I'm talking about small-time artists)

small time artists dont lose if they make their art.

art isnt corporate.

if you chose to make the jump naively from small time art to wages thats your fucking problem.

acceptance is everything.

grow up and stop being so naive.

i think drum&bass would be a much nicer place to exist in if less people were trying to make a living from it Thumbd

Soulseek in trouble ? - Ashes - 25th September 2005

the music industry is a bigger parasite than you can ever imagine, stop relating to your life.

"small time" (whatever you consider to be small time) artists can usually find themselves doing better with stuff being on p2p. ESPECIALLY soulseek.

as for slsk closing....first i've heard about it, and i know the network admins.

stop whining and embrace yourselves imperfect snowflakes.

we all hate industry surely? isnt that what binds us up on here?

Soulseek in trouble ? - tyler - 25th September 2005

thats crazy

what if i want to use limewire to download linux distros or goatse or something?

next they will ban computers cos you can use them to steal their music or claim filesharing helps terrorism or something

pricks!
