Of course mate. I seriously think you'd have to be deaf AND a completely over-analytical cunt to not realise they were anything less than amazing. Plus i always found Andy Bell's 'eyes-to-the-sky/bobbing knee/flailing arms' method of dancing almost as entertaining as the music Statto Wrote:and all they did with it was make this appalling anodyne pop just from this description Statto, i'm pretty sure i'm gonna love ALL of the music featured tonight bbc4 synth britannia - DJ ML - 17th October 2009 Great programme, just watched it on iplayer pleased to see John Foxx on there and actually getting mention and credit for once, this guy was/is a genius!!! metamatic is an essential album My four favorite groups/artists from that era: John Foxx, Human League, Gary Numan, Pet shop Boys tonight bbc4 synth britannia - Statto - 17th October 2009 Hovver Wrote:just from this description Statto, i'm pretty sure i'm gonna love ALL of the music featured Feel free It's the historical revisionism that annoys me, claiming that stuff like The Human League (version 2), Depeche Mode, Yazoo, etc was some great leap forward The only thing different was the equipment, but these synth bands didn't do anything amazing with it; they just made rinky dink pop tunes with dreadful vocals. The real pioneers were in Part 1: Kraftwerk, Giorgio Moroder, Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire, The Human League (version 1), The Normal, ... even Gary Numan and John Foxx. Those records still sound quite futuristic. Whereas the stuff in Part 2 was just a step back. tonight bbc4 synth britannia - dsp - 17th October 2009 clarke is the man! funny how a few of them said "you don't have to be able to play a synth, just press one key and loads of stuff happens" thats the reason i love samplers (once you have programmed it of course) tonight bbc4 synth britannia - assemblyworker - 17th October 2009 God bless ye olde i-player. tonight bbc4 synth britannia - Statto - 17th October 2009 more early synth stuff: Pink Floyd - On The Run http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vLQrzPZB58A Suicide - Ghost Rider http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a224CkygvR4 Throbbing Gristle - Hamburger Lady http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lPrTUC7BDn4 The Human League - The Dignity of Labour Pt.1 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZTZep9GuyA The Teardrop Explodes - Sleeping Gas http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQTR3HAyIbI Vice Versa - New Girls Neutrons http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6qOO6KRZ8CM tonight bbc4 synth britannia - Fada - 17th October 2009 joy division - atmosphere, took 2 days to write and record tonight bbc4 synth britannia - Statto - 17th October 2009 Fada Wrote:joy division - atmosphere, took 2 days to write and record yeah though I dunno what Joy Division were doing in the programme really using a synth to make a big string sound on a couple of tracks hardly makes them a synth band tonight bbc4 synth britannia - socialengineer - 17th October 2009 Statto Wrote:though I dunno what Joy Division were doing in the programme really Probably as joy divisions use of synths was a precursor to new order. although new order didnt start out pure synth.. as the program covered. so yes, this could have been omitted. tonight bbc4 synth britannia - denaris - 18th October 2009 So on top of Stattos list, what other synthy groups from back then should I be checking. ... and yes, I love the darker stuff as much as the cheesier stuff tonight bbc4 synth britannia - socialengineer - 19th October 2009 Wilshy Wrote:So on top of Stattos list, what other synthy groups from back then should I be checking.
