What I Watched on TV recently... - firefinga - 15th August 2016

Since SC has become a personal blog of a handful of peeps by now why not start a TV diary sort of thing. Infact, I don't watch much TV but yesterday there was a good documentary on:

"I Am Divine" (USA 2013)

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1356790/

A documentary on the actor/singer/John Waters associate "Divine". Very well done, sensitive but not kitschy, non sensationalist. Recommended.

A little addendum: I didn't know Divine was supposed to guest star in "Married With Children" but unfortunately died of a heart attack shortly before the filming was sheduled. Icon_sad

And yeah watched a little bit of the olympics as well, but out of utter boredom - women's heptathlon - high jump.

Watched an interesting documentary yesterday - dealing with the consequences of being online all the time and the (over)use of smartphones/social media regarding the ability to concentrate and productivity. Was a French documentary but I guess it's not differing from other countries much. Result in a nutshell - By now, e-Mail or social media has an opposite effect than when it was failry new, mainly by now it's counter-Productive (time-consuming, shattering concnetration, giving the wrong impression of being able to multi-task).

Halfway through The Night Of, really enjoying it so far.

Just watched Daredevil Season 1, tonight we're going to start Narcos Season 2 and I need to carry on watching Dexter, so will probably watch the start of Season 6 of that. Been a bit slow watching them so far.

Oh, and we recently watched Stranger Things, that was good Smile

American Ninja Warrior

Watched another documentary on my pet peeve of late - namley overdigitalisation/smart phone/social media addiction. Was pretty interesting, one part featured a "digital detox" camp where people had to live without any internet/smart phone for a couple of weeks. Great thing was, they set up a "human search engine" meaning a pin wall where people would pin a question written on a piece of paper on and others could answer it. From a personal point of view, I find this current smart phone/social addiction of many people these days rather spooky.

The absolute only benefits of Smartphones are feeling safe. This applies to money/email updates/organising.

Everything else is just clutter.

RE: What I Watched on TV recently... - Euphony - 16th October 2016

Near the end of daredevil season 2 and The Night of...enjoying both Smile

After that we'll be on to Dexter Season 7, The Exorcist and the 3rd season of the strain, oh and we're going to start Westworld when there are more episodes to get our teeth into.

RE: What I Watched on TV recently... - firefinga - 16th October 2016

Could never get into Dexter myself, but have heard good things about Narcos - the old fashioned chap I am, I am usually a few years behind what's the latest cool TV show Hahaha I'll have a look into Narco's though.

And living in the country I'll never get a decent high speed broadband so netflix is out of the question (which I am not so sad about anyways, I don't like such subscriptions netflix style much).

RE: What I Watched on TV recently... - Euphony - 16th October 2016

Just find a erm...t0rrent of them.....

I would never do such a thing of course Wink  Icon_razz

It took me half the 1st season to get into Dexter, then I was hooked. Season 4 with John Lithgow is particulalry brutal

Narcos is excellent, both seasons, and there are more to come Smile

First season is Xyxthumbs
It's slower and goofier, than Breaking Bad. At least the beginning is. Not sure, if it's worth watching several times.

Hmm. Mate. I've been watching some boxfresh TV recently. Quality shows. Self-pronounced documentaries on travel. Cookery without the sensationalism. John Torodes Malaysia to name one. Keith lemon Thru Keyhole and film spoofs ha ha. Movies by the dozen. The League Of Gentlemen series 4, one of the best ever from a long-time watcher. So amazing to see that script be put to television.

Musically the same sort of stuff since 2017 began basically, stuck in the late sixties, early seventies, mid eighties TOTP glamogram kinda vibes, cut out the nineties completely, too much bollocks. Many music videos though. I just hate when all the hipsters talk about their generation being the best like they're the most clueless and world-xenophobic critters of comfort in creation. Ooh alliteration mush.

But that was inevitable with the content fetishization of music videos in the wake of the MTV boom. Everyone wanted a piece of the one-dimensional b-line, booty call, clarion call to Arctic Monkeys trash, lol. "I fell in love with a girl" Really? How about writing some less stream of consciousness lyrics for once. I know, why don't we invite ED SHEERAN to give you a hand. Girls love Ed Sheeran, right?

Boxnation and Good Food are my goto cable channels, I and my friends also watch lots of nursing and pet programs. We'll also have time for the odd soppy oldies series, one from the mid/late 60s my mum likes was aired recently, a bit of a religious styled Western world conquest about fears and predictions, but essential because of the heavy romantic shit involved. Waiting For God in reverse. That, too.

The television enables I AND my family to experience life to the fullest without having to go anywhere any more. I'm going on holiday this year. Supposedly. But watching a proper travel program, like Ben Fogle documenting the hangers-off of the world reclusing themselves in the wilderness, gives I and everyone inclined to feast on it a taste of that same wilderness, just from a warm, cozy house in the UK.

Springwatch

RE: What I Watched on TV recently... - Muttley - 30th January 2018

Sorry to say Big Brother UK.
I find the bare bones framework worth analysing.
Shame the shallow characters do not amount to.
I want Ann Widdicombe to win this game.

Hot Fuzz, The Cloverfield Paradox, In Bruges trailers.
