chris.innocence Wrote:and a Roland SP606. Nice. Let me know how you get on with it, I've been thinking about picking one of these up.
^ It's good on first impressions if a bit basic - ok build, looks great. I could probably do a lot more with a more recent Akai MPC, but they are around twice as much in terms of what I paid.
I don't need another keyboard at all, but have lined up a GEM S3 workstation for a RIDICULOUS price (sub £100). Merry Xmas to me.

Yeh I've heard its a common complaint with most of the roland sp's that they're pretty basic. But as an alternative to try every now and again purely for breaks rather than trying to construct full songs in it im pretty keen to get one. Paradigm X Wrote:Roland TR505 & TR626 I think subverts have all the TR's covered save maybe the 727 & 808 (or or did I see a clone?) To be perfectly honest, I never expected so many drum machine enthusiasts here. I've found myself fancying a 707 lately though... Anybody have a boss DR-55 or DR-110? Can't remember the other off-brand 80's analog drum machines ATM, but there are quite a few. 1270 Bought my first Digital synth 2 days ago after months of eBay/CL hawking. Just going through the presets I've had a bunch of fun with the Staccato Heaven patch w/ odd tuning + note repeat. Finding some interesting sounds in the first octave, lowest keys. I haven't gone too deep into programming on it yet, and looking at the MIDI Implementation Chart already has me scratching my head... Going to try and use some D50 editors on it first - if that doesn't work, well, I'm not looking forward to that. Having owned and used a PG-800 the sight of the PG-1000 makes me feel overwhelmed.
Wow.
I now understand the overwhelming popularity of the 80's analog polysynth Digital synths are a pain in the ass to program. No amount of preparation would make programming a digital synth clear to me. I spent my first two hours programming two patches. The first was my attempt at a Lately bass knockoff. I found the Solid Bass patch about an hour later *palmface*, but I'm still pleased w/what I accomplished. https://soundcloud.com/the-quiet-overhea...0-laightly The second I named Fisher Price. The patch name pretty much sums it up.

I've been trying to remember the first synth I ever saw, and convince myself that anything ever made a difference.
