Here's the original Amazon LP which is somewhat busier overall - eMusic has a wonderful bug of putting in free trial notes upon pressing the download button. So I'm going to buy this instead.

"Breaking Stone" is fantastic. The last track is really difficult (40 minutes long) but decidedly worth it. "It falls somewhere between sound poetry and song". I won't be hearing it many times - only in times of difficulty, as it has lots of harsh vocalisations over piano - but damn, what a purchase.

I like the player piano pieces. Not so bothered about the long one with voice.

If I wanted unlikely noises I'd listen to some Bussotti. Much more composed and thorough, as well as being unpredictable and containing some odd operatic vocals occasionally.

I recommend this album for Wire readers; I've had it for over 10 years and it still sounds excellent.

I'm not looking for new music as I'm not consuming anything new that I haven't already subscribed for (i.e eMusic, Ghostly International on Drip.FM, Tailored Communications and Organic promos) - I have what I need already and am savouring every last drop. But before I stopped collecting mentally, I got from eMusic Pharoahe Monch - PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) which pisses over any other hip hop I've heard except BusDriver. It's an album on the theme of mental health which makes a change from the usual 'n', auto-tune and cringe-worthy 'motherfucker' vocals of hip hop.

I'm particularly enjoying the Alan Courtis interview for observational policy and harvesting review themes out of the writing.

Once I got over how pretentiously theatrical the choreography for related videos to this were, I started to enjoy the 1 minute soundtrack.

That's from the February issue btw. I'm tired of the 'keeping up with trends' tedium that onsets my mindstate when I have an endless stream of stuff to choose from, and feeling like I can't listen to that - and enjoy it - without searching out the next thing asap. I've missed 2 whole issues in the last year. The Compiler one looks good but I never had chance to read it. Now I'm making time after scratching on the excellent Jandek pt. 1 issue. So with my cutting out of CD buying and sticking to my subs, things look rosy.

This is quite nice - apparently the most beautiful track on Marissa Nadler's "July" according to Joseph Stannard

No worries; The Wire isn't the magazine for trends anyway, just a load of random stuff that you've mostly never heard of.

Well, it has its own trends for what it reports on, biases etc like any other magazine. But in general there's enough balanced content to make it a worthy read each time.

And I understand about the "endless stream". There's just so much music out there and not enough time.

And I like to feel that I don't "need" time, because that takes the enjoyment out of me just finding pleasure in the moment. Transcendental behaviour really.

I look on Juno's newsletters for machine-like reviews of music, but I don't read the reviews, as they're mostly devoid of interest for me. Boomkat is the same, although it used to be much better, and if I didn't read the Ateleia - Formal Sleep CD review when it was still in stock, I wouldn't have acquired my fave LP ever.

I liked the St Vincent track I heard on Mary Anne Hobbs' 6Music Recommends show a month ago. Her music is said to deal or spring from themes of anxiety and depression so I might be able to connect with it more so.
