Ya big cherry muffin
Old Gong release in #371 looks interesting from the description, I wonder what it'll sound like. Something for the new year.
Early mrn Wire reading session thx 2 ski of shortbread.
Statto Wrote:#369 shortlist for posterity... I dunno, the clips sound alright, but it mostly just sounds like someone selecting LP-format-adhering samples and creating a very short loop of each in Ableton Live. Muttley Wrote:Old Gong release in #371 looks interesting from the description, I wonder what it'll sound like. Something for the new year. This sounds pretty good Is it endemic that Amazon.com / .co.uk has the 30 second audio samples on most products? I need to Spotify it.
Oooh, a discovery of a discovery in #371 - Fennesz - Mahler Remixed. Fennesz is good. I will try and track this down on Spotify or eMusic.
Robert Barry's rev is really enlightening - here's an extract: Fennesz - Mahler Remixed "Consisting of four movements, each running more than ten minutes (though the second is essentially just an extended live take of "Limninality", from his 2014 album Becs), Mahler Remixed mirrors in structure Mahler's own first, fourth, sixth and ninth symphonies. It's the third movement that's the real killer. Here an oasis of reverb is whipped into a storm of thunderous distortion before crashing down, like waves upon a shore, into the symphony's finale, sounding as if performed at the bottom of a mine shaft. This is one of those musical encounters that, once heard, sounds so fitting, so obvious, you're amazed it hasn't happened before. The 19th century's richest, most full-bodied symphonist transformed by one of the 21st century's most sensuous musicians. An explosion of light and colour, of noise and space." Muttley Wrote:Is it endemic that Amazon.com / .co.uk has the 30 second audio samples on most products? Yes, they're always 30 seconds on Amazon. Not ideal, but it's better than nothing. Actually I always try Juno first, who have 1-2 minute samples (if they're selling these particular records of course). And I google for soundcloud, bandcamp, and label links etc as well. Muttley Wrote:Oooh, a discovery of a discovery in #371 - Fennesz - Mahler Remixed. Fennesz is good. I've just started going through the #371 reviews systematically. Three things added to the longlist before that... Thomas Dimuzio - Amid Zero Echo (Drone) http://www.juno.co.uk/products/thomas-di...552177-01/ Luigi Nono - Seguente (Edition RZ) http://boomkat.com/cds/1169260-luigi-nono-seguente various - Music from the Tudorfest: San Francisco Tape Music Center 1964 (New World) http://www.amazon.co.uk/Music-Tudorfest-...B00R3NECI8 Decent records, but none of them really have the "this is great!" factor.
I'll try Juno more often then. Yes, thanks. I don't globally outsource links as much as I used to. Tranquilisers talking.
Statto Wrote:Muttley Wrote:Is it endemic that Amazon.com / .co.uk has the 30 second audio samples on most products? I have something from this already on a Drone Records sampler Cd. I liked it. Litte test really categorically by seeing if Fennsz is stocked on Juno, a site primarily known for electronica sales, with Christian crossing over into ambient quite a bit.
To be sure about Fennesz and Juno - 11 releases physically; 41 with him included on JunoDownload - but no Mahler Remixed. Ah well, it is early days yet.
Edit: now I feel like a prized tit - it specifies in the Wire review that it's a Bandcamp DL Here it is: https://fennesz.bandcamp.com/album/mahler-remixed
And it's fantastic.
Statto Wrote:further on #368, probably this one... but from the same issue, in the main magazine (i.e. not reviewed)... Fripp & Eno - Live in Paris 28.05.1975 (DGM / Opal) http://www.dgmlive.com/archive.htm?&show=1340
What do you mean by this main magazine? Are you referring to The Wire's online site, http://www.thewire.co.uk, seeing as digital turnover over print is higher these days?
Ad, I see what you mean: you're referring to the Fripp interview I imagine, and a highlighted track from it. Muttley Wrote:What do you mean by this main magazine? the proper articles, interviews and whatnot before the reviews section Muttley Wrote:Ad, I see what you mean: you're referring to the Fripp interview and a new release referred to therein
Re #371, I'm currently liking this one...
Rie Nakajima - Four Forms (Consumer Waste) http://consumerwaste.org.uk/releases

do you like Godflesh then?
I love "Flowers"
...Then I downloaded everything that was available on eMusic in 2007.
Statto Wrote:do you like Godflesh then? But I wasn't finding it for me Statto Wrote:#369 shortlist for posterity... Listening to this now...pretty decent. Statto Wrote:Nazoranai - The Most Painful Time Happens Only Once Has it Arrived Already? (Ideologic Organ) Listened to the CD version yesterday...pretty mighty.
The difference now with Wire is while I'm not intimidated by it, I've accepted I go through spells with it. I get immense deja view seeing some reviews albeit in a systematic order. I should be appreicating more of what's in there when Ifeel like it.
Slightly on topic, and quite relevant: I think Juno should have a shortcut on the header to JunoDownload. CDs and vinyl are great and all, but I don't always want more records to sift through on my shelf.
