SC002 Review

Got that CD from Statto last week with all the tracks signed so far and am getting in to all tunes slowly but surely. Anyways here's my thoughts on Blue's latest numbers:

Blue - Suck

Blue punks it up with some drum strewn carnage on the second SC release. The kicks and snares hammer the point home through some kaleidoscopically tweaked breaks as further sonic fury adds to the mix. A sub driven squelch keeps things funky with another rhythmic layer and grooves along the underbelly bulking things out. This gives the track an extra paunch to the already obese framework as the rest of the track is littered with visceral feedback. The bassline is labyrinthine with many twists and turns evolving relentlessly. All in all a techstepping monster with angry drums.

Blue - Nextploitation

The drums in this one have a nice live sound to them although the break used is as tight as you like. A film noir atmosphere pervades much of the track through mellowtron sounds and buzzing indian chords. The beats jump around like a three-legged funk monster as some tense chords keep your expectations high. Quality horns swirl around the subs and archaic chords complete the smokey jazz tinged picture.

Blue - My Mind Is Going

A bit of a downbeat number, this reminds me of rainy Sunday afternoons with its sultry chords and brass. The breaks roll along in a suitably lazy fashion with piano flourishes to accentuate the groove. Squealing trumpets add some extra sparkle and provide light through the sepia gloom. Definitely one for the horizontal amongst you as the track reaches its chopped beat conclusion. In a word, nice.
