i wondered, when you talk about adding crappy amp kit - it is like an off the shelf circuit or do you have to build it up from schematics, likewise i wonder if i could buy an off the shelf lw radio circuit, with hackability, or would i have to build one up from scratch?

that box sounds like a cool idea, the barbie karaoke bends on casperelectronics can produce some weird stuff, as this video inspired me to pick one up on ebay. anxious of it's arrival.

the kit I picked up was a cheap 40db op-amp from the local shop. I was previously trying to breadboard a diode distortion schematic together and didn't realize after making it I couldn't just hook up a 9v battery to it lol. Basically the kit has a volume pot, an input, output, and power supply....when I started putting it into this toy piano's circuit, I just rigged a watch battery to it, and soldered what would be the pos. / neg. wires for the input and output jacks in various spots (keeping to pos. / neg. still).

The only way to describe the sounds it was making was the sound getting stuck in a voltage loop and ended up being a lot cooler than I expected haha.
