so....

can we talk here? I've gushed before, but here's another reason to divulge.

there's a NEW Into It. Over It. record out called "Standards" (Triple Crown Recs, March, 2016).

In my world that's a pretty big deal. Smile

7 years ago now, I was following links on myspace (remember that?), and I clicked on the Into It. Over It. myspace page discovering this nerdy, bearded dude with glasses named Evan Weiss, who had then relocated to Chicago or something, and was starting to play in more bands in the area than is normal for the average person. You know, one of THOSE types - always with a guitar, prolific as fuck, can seemingly play every instrument, talented with the pop hooks, and even acts as a one man band at times. I mean, dude can do it all! He has it covered.

When I discovered Into It. Over It. on myspace back then, dude had just released this crazy solo compilation lp where he recorded 52 songs in 52 weeks (52 Weeks lp, 2009), and put it out for free online if I recall. Many of the songs were acoustic, but there was an even balance of rockin tunes to coincide, which has been the IIOI standard presentation since. From the myspace page, I also discovered Weiss's previous band The Progress, who had also had their discography available online as a free dl at that time. It was all so DIY. Quickly, other Weiss affiliated bands stuck to my radar instantly via Stay Ahead of The Weather, and then via Pet Symmetry, Their / They're / There, etc, All happy listening indeed.

Admittedly, I was OBSESSED with Into It. Over It. for a bit. Seriously. It happens. From that first "52 Weeks" comp lp, then the numerous e.p's that followed, cover versions, then subsequent lp's over the past few years, the side projects, etc. There has been a fair bit of music to check out. I had them all on the player on shuffle. Literally the soundtrack to my psyche for a fair bit, mos def.
IIOI has been around long enough now that I don't question it. Whether solo or as a band, I will always have time for Weiss's songs. The new "Standards" lp fits the mold, and there's even more beautiful songs to add to the catalog. Its a good thing.

I'm happy this record is finally out. I needed it this week.

hey EVAN if you read this.. thanks mang, as always. Keep doing you, as they say.

Cheers.  Xyxthumbs
