I recall first reading about à;GRUMH... in a free, local Vancouver, BC radio zine maybe in 1989 / 90 ish? Of course, the allure was the seemingly, unpronounceable band name & the band's very openly gay identity. I mean, compared to The Pet Shop Boys, Erasure.. just reading an interview with à;GRUMH... made things seem that much more extreme. It made sense that the band were mentioned in a local Vancouver zine then, as they had toured & collaborated with Skinny Puppy in 1986 - 1988. At the time, I still didn't know too much about the band, as my attentions lead me to other, then current, ebm / industrial sounds kicking about. à;GRUMH... still seemed obscure & I was much, much too young to know anything about bdsm. lol Truthfully, in comparison Front 242 were a bit more digestible. ha.
