Pieter K - Crossroads
Pieter K rolls out an eerie drum track packed with funky attack. Some jazzy chords keep the mood sepia and odd vocal samples lounge it up in the foggy background. The drums never stop evolving as a funked up acoustic bass guitar steadies the groove. Subs and a drawn out squelch become the focal point of the track before being joined by a low sax. A really spacious sounding tune with jazzed smokey vibes. In a word, nice.
Pieter K - Maze
The rolls in this tune are just too darn crisp overlaid with bluesy mournful horns. Filters snake through each drum in turn as the rhythm bangs out its intent with an insistent snare. The bass keeps itself subtly hidden but is nonetheless heavy enough to sway the behinds of all on the dancefloor. As the breaks get more chaotic hissing synths mist over the rest of the mix. A good counterpoint to the incisive beatwork and another worthy addition to the Subvert Central label.
