The musical mood thread

splendid thread idea!

here's an idea i had a while ago, that i never finished. (and since i've lost the original project and samples).

it's a tune where all the melodic and harmonic elements are pitched and panned in and out of *controlled* focus using all dopler effects!

so what happens is you get a bunch of long tones and sounds that have very little pitch modulation to begin with, and then using different timings and phases and layers with multiple dopler inserts, you make a chord sort of "morph" into it's final state out of wierd pans, and pitches.....ie) you have a 4 voice chord where each pitch in the chord has a stagered start point, yet comes into the final elongated phase of the dopler at the same time giving a sense of resolve out of a spacial tension.....and obviously, the side that each pitch starts on ends up on the other side of the field....dunno if i'm explaining it properly, but i swear it's cool once you get it happening!

I'm currently working on a track named 'Blink and you'll be even more confused'. I nicked that senetnce someweher and can't remember where, but it describes the mood I'm going for pretty good. Trying to let it feel a little bit lost and misty. Ingredients: drones, cloudy feedback noise, a repetetive groove that stumbles into little eruptive breakdowns and a little 'let it all slide away' implosion towards the end. Well, that's the plan

There's this thing I've had for a while, I call it 'mango funk'.

Imagine a hot sexy girl in the tropical jungle, one leg bent, her face tilted so its looking at the sun, naked, nice brown tan, small sweat beads all over her body, and she's moaning, "Rhythmic... Rhythmic... Oh Rhythmic, yes!"

I need to make a tune thats on that vibe!



But yeah, these are what I call Mango Funk tunes: Sex in Zero G - Red Planet - Eddie Fowlkes, Larry Heard - Too many tunes, just hot sweaty tunes!

gonna make a thing called twitch i think.

basically my idea is a minimal steppy sort of beat that every now and then spazzes out into some crazy idm/breakcore sort of thing. hopefully lots of weird noises and bleeps will also be present.

Started a 110bpm swinging funk number with live drums (no quantise! The liberation!!), double bass and keys last night.

It is highly nice.

normally i'm a minimalist... i like drums and bass just like dub music... things cutting in and out, a warm pad, echoes...



...but this week i'm on this deviant futurescape thing, am stoked about it cuz it sounds like old skool Krust or something... it just keeps getting more and more ridiculous, and i thought it was going to be a mere ambient soundscape without beats!

i started a dub tune with guitar and vocals compliments of me.

and another jungle tune....with guitar (from me), that has a sort of half time/double time afro-funk vibe to it....i think i'm gonna keep this one with a more "organic" vibe.....whatever the fuck taht means.
