I'm all about taking breaks to get away from production. It helps me out alot. Currently I feel okay about my production level, I seem to have daily moodswings about it tho really. One day loving it and what I'm working on, then wanting to just give the whole thing up the next day.

Recently I blew a foam surround out of one of my Advents, so I bought a pair of proper moniters to use till my lazy arse fixes the Advent driver. I find producing with monitors AWFULL. Too freakin bright and tinny in the highs and they fatigue my ears. So, I've been putting off doing any serious production. I do still work, but only till my ears start to fatigue. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I got the monitors as I can hear some things better with them (like bad 0-Xings) But, I don't like listening to them for hours on end. I just need to fix the advent. Then I will probably switch between the two types of speakers depending upon the task at hand.

i'm falling behind the cut when it comes to electronic music... i'm getting more involved in written arrangements with live musicians in mind, again


...why try to spend endless hours replicating with electronics what can be achieved more satisfactorily with your head, your body and your instruments, only to have your music be ridiculed as computerized and never taken remotely seriously by anybody? -that's kind of what's happening to me

i'd like to, i've done a sampler keys+synths and beats thing, i'm trying to hook up a gig right now where i play some keys and some bass and some laptop... only problem is the producer calls the shots, otherwise i would be on this gig!



...my electronic explorations are taking me far from 'drum and bass' too, in fact the music i'm really wanting to make has no means of coming together just yet and i can't suss why yet.

perhaps... i'm kind of going thru some shit so i don't really know at the moment... i just celebrated my 34th b-day and 170 beats a minute is just too fuckin' fast now

I just celebrated my 37th and my music is just now getting up to 172

I don't really find that it is the speed so much as just the nature/emotional quality of the tune. I lean more towards the atmospheric/drum funkier side, and I atribute this to my age... Got my agression out years ago and have no intention of making 'Hard' tunes. All in all ya just gotta do what your heart tells ya.

i've been playing around with the idea of mixing at the real low end of the dynamic curve for a change, so i can
get the kind of dynamics i haven't been getting in my present setup...

real raw from soft to loud and the shape of the attacks on drums etc. is what i'm having the most trouble with, i think...

i want to get into that magical realm where the drums are just brushing your ears, and also able
to dynamically swoop down on you with more variations of impact, like a multi-drummer rythym section...
-in other words, a lot more dynamic than a lot of electronic music i've heard of late

i think my music was never 'nearer' to me than the stuff i'm currently working on. not sure if that's really a good thing.

also, i want to get back into strange harmonies and variations on the old skool chord progressions and stuff!

im on the verge of quitting and just focusing my time more on exegene.
