Your current music

you should try and refocus mate, but on writing musicfor yourself. just forget about writing with a view to release. listen to all sorts of different music.. try writing something other than d&b...you really sound like you need to start enjoying it ! chin up ghuy everyone goes through these dark times Xyxthumbs
true... but thing is, although in a way, i am making music intent on a release.. but thats only because the music i make is for me, which i dont want it to be..

that might sound odd. but what i want to do is make music like music i like to hear. but it just comes out as something that has "me" (amateur, talentless and frankly shit) written all over it.
i enjoy making it, but when i've "done", i just realised i've wasted bloody hours on something i dont even like to listen to.

as for dnb, most of the tunes i make arent dnb, some of them i like, some are crap (i'll post up some of my electronica sometime soon, because even tho its also crap, its better than my dnb).but i find making dnb hard. (well hard to make something i enjoy listening to) Oops

i guess i've just got lost off my musical road atm.
i'll quit my self-pity now :P
I thought some of those downtempo things were nice, Bob.

Everyone is always their own harshest critic. dgoHn is a prime example. He makes some really good stuff 'but it's shit' Neutral

I say keep doing whatever you feel like doing, but give it to a few people. You might be surprised how much someone else's compliments improves your own view of your music.

I know what it's like, man. I broke my recent bad patch cos I said 'FUCK OFF FOR A WHILE DNB, YOU'RE GETTING RIGHT ON MY TITS!', and it seems to have worked.

That is so true! Especially if it's coming from people that don't make music themselves. Criticism on messageboards like this or from your producer-buddies is fine to improve your technique, but it's absolutely nothing compared to the motivation you can get from someone who doesn't listen with the analytical ear but with the heart. The feeling that someone really understood what you're on about is pure endorphin.

It's a bonus if it's coming from a woman you like a lot Hyper

"Earth people, I was born on Jupiter" - Dr. Octagon

I don't know what that has to do with anything here, but I just got that on vinyl from ebay and it rocks...

Just started and finished a hip hop/trip hop tune tonight and finished it tonight with a good deal of beer and vodka. It sounds dope. If you have troubles with music, drink some barly wine. It works for me :P
Grumble i don't know im all over the place Baffled can't make my mind up what sort of music to make so it ends up being a mish mash of allsorts Chin

hmmm soon Xyxthumbs

thats a promise !!
here goes some introspection - feel free to skip....
it's gonna be so self-centered, it's embarrassing.

bluntly, i have no clue as to what i should be doing - music-wise - at the moment.
and i have to say it feels awesome.
i am happy.

in terms of dnb, i think i've "said" quite a lot.
ive done so much of the kind of shit that i wanna do and i am happy with it.
and, i guess, i've "established" myself to a certain extent in the process of expressing myself.
ive got some recognition and that feels nice.

i no more have the feeling that i NEED to do dnb.
it's almost like, i think i've had my say in dnb: i've made a statement and i am happy with that.
i almost feel like i dont want do more dnb actually...it doesnt grab me like it used to.
i dont follow any releases or take part in too many dnb discussions anymore: it doesnt interest me much.
but, i know all that is a bit extreme to say as things always go in cycles, and i dont think that'd apply to things in the long run anyways, as i will always do the odd dnb tune when the feeling hits me.
it's just that i am not as dnb-minded as i once was. things have changed.

production/music-wise, i'd like to reach some new scenes and genres.....
cuz when it comes to dnb, it's like, i make a tune today, it'll come out in 15 months when you're no longer excited about it.

i'm also waiting for the tunes of mine that are signed to come out.
i know this may sound stupid but sometimes i feel like i dont wanna make anything as everything's happening so slowly and there's so much stuff that has to come out first.

i am really waiting for my downtempo album to come out....
that should happen in a few months at the latest.
i've been told that it'll be this year.
personally, i think that's really something that's fresh and it might make a welcome addition to the music out there today.

ive been listening to loads of music, just enjoying the i-dont-have-to-do-anything-in-the-studio feeling.

i think i wanna try my hands on some hiphop: ive been listening more and more to dj krush and dj shadow and stuff like they do, and that really blows me away.
their music has all the elements i wanna hear and achieve.
i dont wanna copy them of course.
instrumental hiphop (i aint too keen on rap) is so interesting, there's space for everything.

ive also been listening to some techno but i dont think i wanna do anything like that - at least not technoy beats.

im getting some new gear (more outputs, an access virus a...) soon, which will, no doubt, inspire me to get busy in the studio too. i also recently got an akai s5000 which is a welcome tool in the studio.

i dunno where i am going.....and that feels good! Grin
