Sound Card Help Please

I'm looking for a new sound card and i was just wonderin if anyones had any experience using the SB Audigy 4 Pro package, it is 24bit has 6 analouge ins, MIDI and firewire so it seems good enough, the package costs £179.99 of the SB website which also seems ok compared to some cards i've looked at.

here are the specs:http://www.soundblaster.com/products/pro...duct=10853

I think this is probably what I'm gonna go with but I just thought I'd see if anyone could shed some light on how good it is or if there is a better alternative.
get an emu card. the 1820 may be a little more expensive, but the features all round are worth it, and the convertors are (more than likely) streets ahead of the audigy's, being digidesign convertors.

essentially they are the same hardware, but if you are using it for music making, get the emu one and not the creative 'packed full of shit for grannies to surf the internet' one. Xyxthumbs

seems good but £279.99 (turnkey.co.uk) seems a bit too steep for me Icon_sad
Make sure it isn't coming with the Emu-X software Smile

Maybe that is the right price though Baffled

Either way, just wait and save that extra £100 - it isn't worth going half arse, or you may as well not buy one at all Smile

IMO of course. But the you asked :P Grin

There's also the 1212, which I have and love. That's cheaper. No breakout box, preamps and fewer ins though, but same convertors.

fuck it i think i'll go for that emu as you are right there realy is no point going half arsed, just means im gonna have to wait another month or two so i can save enough cash Roll . hopefuly it'll be worth it though. cheers for all the info macc Xyxthumbs
it will be worth it.
if you get the creative one you'll probably end up buying the ohter one in the end anyway.
I've gone through about 6 soundcards since I have been making tunes, and the first time I recorded a 'real' source through a microphone using the Emu, I was staggered by the quality.

You'll be glad you got it man Smile

give me a couple of months and I should have a monster of a computerand be churning out some decent beats, watch this space Choppage
how about this one http://www.computermusic.co.uk/reviews/terra/terra.asp i can get this for £120 second hand (but in perfect working order) although I doubt it's quite as good as the EMU
J.D mate, Macc is right.

get the 1820, i have one and have never looked back.
That one is very similar to one I had before.

Versus the Emu it is night and day mate Wink

I had a feeling you were gonna say that, o well it doesn't look like im gonna get away with a cheap option this time Lol
The Emu IS a cheap option... Wink

Look for Apogee Rosetta convertors and see what they cost you... And that is JUST convertors...

i concurr with the maccster. Yes Teef
i think the convertors on the audigy are actually the same as the 1212. i had one for review and it just had 4 of the chips rather than the 2 on the 1212.

but i agree. i think e-mu cards will be far mroe relilable for music stuff. if you want a card that does games/movies AND music then i think the audigy 4 might fulfil the remit better.

or wait for the Creative X-Fi card. i'll have one to test later today so i'll post if its nice...... Smile

Hmmm, I'm not sure - you'd think the Creative site would at least mention the digidesign thing, you know, like they have trumpeted it for the EMu cards. Looking at tech specs on the Creative Labs site, doesn't mention that at all Baffled

i think the ADC is the same and the DAC is a very very similar cirrus logic one. obvioulsy doesnt guarantee itll sound as good as the e-mu cards....

but if you play alot of games the EAX advanced HD sounds lavly. Thief 3 sounded ruddy gorgeous.

the creative soft is a little bloated and over the top to say the least though.

the X-Fi looks like it could be deadly tho, and the low-end models reasonably priced too....

Finally bought this dog Grin Grin Grin
nice one. beast innit.
Hope you got the 'm' at the end... that's the version with the higher quality converters people are on about.. I know it may be too late.
I bought the 1212m to begin with, the got the 1820m audiodock for £150 extra.. cost me less in all than the full 1820m system... but it's gone up in price now. Emu sound quality is top notch.. ASIO is shithot with latest drivers. Grin
