perhaps "pop" was the wrong word. it adds a small muddy rumble where i have chopped two kicks close together. not to mention it sounds like the sound quality slightly changed as if they filter or anti-alias something improperly.

nope.
i have had similar problems in the past chopping 16th notes at 170bpm +. my solution then was to just not chop at such a small scale. :P

fair enough. i wasn't trying to insult you or anything - just got precious little faith in recycle Wink

it's tantamount to a really poor timestretch though, no? i can't imagine a single given drum hit sounding better like this than chopping it as an individual hit... Chin

how do you go about resequencing? Smile you know, making your own patterns with it? Smile

lol.
sorry
i will rephrase. i dont do that with recycle at all. zoom in + sliced on your own ftw.

however.it pisess me off so muc that when u zoom and 'play' the rex.. the playback bar follows the window so if you're zoomed one hit, it will move the window and you'll lose that point. so annoying.

1 - you know exactly where the end of the hit is (with rexes you could move it some way off and have more than just that hit, if you had a brainfart)
2 - you know exactly where the start of the hit is (again)
3 - touching up one won't fuck up any others
4 - allows individual treatment of wavs (say just that one little hi hat hit has got some really irritating little bit in it, you can eq it out without needing to rechop. yes you can do this in your sampler but i'd rather use a decent eq)
5 - the main one - allows bouncing off of effected copies as a batch. so you can make effected versions of all your hits and have it play exactly the same thing just by moving the midi to another channel. incredibly flexible and powerful! Yes Yes Yes

I have been playing with the chopping abilities of ableton live 7 combined with the ableton Sampler it works really well..

You can chop using warp markers automatically into the sampler, you can then choose to work from the whole sample with the ability to edit start stop and loop points of each slice, or consolidate all the chops into new samples. If you want to edit an individual sample you can easily drag the sample from sampler into a new track, or edit it using your external editor..

I haven't done much chopping but it seems to be a pretty good workflow..

you can also chop into drum racks.. so each chop goes into a simpler on an individual pad. allowing you to eq + effect each chop individually.

its pretty flexible...
