What version is Reason up to now then?

The M-Class Effects make a huge difference. Also although scream can sound muddy, try running it in Tape mode with just a hair of compression and a hair of drive and you here a nice difference in the original source sample, it does a pretty good tape compressor if you go easy on it. It pulls the hats and subtelties to the front without killing the transients. Once you go beyond 10 or so on the compression knob then it starts to lose the dynamics and get muddy.
Here's a chain that I've found actually sounds really good in Reason and I've been using it to make samples to export to my EMU. Run your breaks to a line mixer (if you have multiple sources) and from there run an M-Class EQ with a little low shelf boost, 2-3 db or so and a notch or 2 where you hear low rumbling, run that into the M-Class compressor set to where you start to hear just a little punch and then run that to the Scream in tape mode with just a hint of drive and compression and it sounds pretty damn warm. Then add another M Eq if needed to make room or ad clarity.
The one thing I have to give Reason credit for is that it has never (literally) crashed on me no matter how many devices I have running. It might sound a bit dry but it is the most stable program I've evr used.
well im not ashamed to say that i love Malstrom..its the only thing i still use from the day when i started pissing about with the software
