Set the release time to 3 weeks on the Reason compressor and it will still distort Teef

I'm a new man since rewiring to Ableton :P

The M-Class compressor ain't that bad. The original one was awful though.

It is basically mda limiter, so it has its uses Grin Well, did.

Not tried the M-Class one though, I heard that it is a lot better., Saying that, sitting on my computer gives better compression than the original Reason comp Teef

Okay, I'll stop caning Reason now Teef

Actually, I listened to a really old thing by John and myself the other day, and some of the crazy routing stuff we did in Reason was really good Smile

It just sounded like Reason, which was where it all fell down.

Hahaha

It's not groundless though.... It's abuse based on experience Teef

As for Prodigy, he may like Reason's sound but it didnt stop him piping it all through thousands of pounds' worth of gear to make it sound good (not mentioned in that article, but there were several about it at the time).

so liam howlett is a wiener. fair enough.

what about amen andrews/luke vibert/plug? Yes Xyxthumbs

essentially, all i wanna say is: audio engines are just adding digital data, there shouldn't be any magic involved. if so, something is added to the signal, which doesn't belong there (as good as it may sound) ...

i have no feckin idea about what cubase/nuendo does to its signals, but in the end it should just be adding and subtracting numbers.

all this bad aliasing reason supposedly does, well... it's probably true, but i'm not sure if it makes the sound necessarily that bad.

Hahaha i didn't say that Icon_razz don't get grumpy cos you've got a sore throat! Icon_razz :d

fwiw just the other day i was at the rehearsal studio and the boss there was playing some prodigy. i remember thinking what a master howlett is at getting barechunkybeetz. Yes Lovesmilie

i can't remember all the details, or very many of them at all in fact, but i use to believe this as well. apparently it isn't the case Baffled Smile

maybe not when playing back a single audio file absolutely clean. however, as you well know, in something like reason, 'bang for buck' - that is, number of synths/effects etc you can get - are the main focus for the developers. the compromise has to be made somewhere, and it is unquestionably in the quality of the signal processors. the pass filters in reason - compare them to, say, that of arturia minimoog. it's night and day, and that's 3 years old or more now.

aside from this, even avid reason afficianados (like, say, wilsh Teef ) admit that simply rewiring reason into any other app improves the sound noticeably. put that in your 'just adding numbers' pipe and smoke it Teef

its probably just down to the instruments and effects in reason being shit so you get aliasing from the instruments and then shit quality effects -> shit sound.

not that i have anything against reason Teef

If sequencers were bed sheets, Cubase/Nuendo would be made of silk, or at least high count fabric.

Reason would be made of aluminum foil.

especially when you bite on it Lovesmilie Hahaha

the sampler i use in buzz has also a highquality interpolation method, which i can't be arsed to switch on, since i just don't hear any difference Lol (it's said to actually work though)

using your own samples is the key. the orkester sounds are decent, but the reason factory drum kits = [Image: sadbanana.gif]

matilde 2 - some really great features added. when you chop a beat with 09 xx there's a new command that lets you change the release phase of each hit on the fly. Lovesmilie Lovesmilie Lovesmilie supertight offnotes galore. Xyxthumbs

the interpolation method can be switched via parameters (already in matilde 1)

I didn't even know there was Matilde 1 and 2, so then I probably still use 1 ... Oops (off to get Matilde 2)

Lately I've been experimenting with randomizing percussion patterns

I'm an afficiando of something?! Icon_eek Gee thanks man Teef

I've recently started rewiring into Ableton and the difference is instantly noticable. A much more chunky sound, not to mention more volume before clipping (or that could Madcap's way of turning everything down and boosting everything with the Scream unit - or as I now call it, the Harsh unit).

I still maintain that you can and do get good results straight out of Reason, if you can be bothered working with it's foibles (ahhh what a word Grin). Being not the greatest engineer on the planet, the advantages of shoving it through Ableton with some nice VST plug ins bodes much better results and easier to get.

i dont like reason, its pooey.
plastic sounding poop, but i couldnt tell the difference between most professional producers stuff. I think logistics uses soley reason and i never would have know till i read it. some real tuff sounds. but then you get crap like the last prodigy album that really is poo sounding even if it was chucked through millions of pounds worth of outboard.
...also, when i get bedroom producers send me tunes.. you can tell right away its out of reason. one guy who sends me quite alot of stuff for critique etc started using cubase in about november and his sound quality has improved by miles even though hes had to start learning a whole new sequencing package!

fisher price sequencer for a world of fisherprice producers.
but im just bitter as it took me years to build up the nessacrccry tools/money/hardware/software/knowledge to start producing somthing that sounded half good.. then reason came along and any old muppet could knock a track out. Icon_sad but then again i guess its like your cock... its what you do with it that counts. :P

theres my 2 pence. Wink

it's not exactly like reason itself creates great tracks instantly. there's still only a few people who seem to be able to use it properly. all the others can layer refill upon refill and keep on sucking. Wink
