There are stereoisation issues with cans (the right signal never reaches the left ear and vice versa) , but well, you just get used to it. I'm pretty shit at pan judgements on monitors now Lol

Mainly cos you never know if you're sitting riiiight in the middle.

Can recommendations; go and check them all out in the shop Smile

i hate it when stuff pans too much anyway to be honest never try to overdue it anyway

as i wrote before, thats bollox. a decent amp well matched with decent passive monitors will outperform your average active monitors.
sure, id rather have a set of tb2s's with bryson or flying moles, but there isnt that much difference relatively between that configuration and what i use.....and i know that id much rather have my haffler amp and passive tb2s's than a set of tannoy reveal actives Wink

sennheiser hd 650s.

ill bring mine round next time i come ova bob. you will be blown away.
never used a set of cans so clear, flat (not as in dull, but as in even!) and very importantly less fatiguing over long periods than these fuckers.

as maccintosh will argue, so long as you know your monitoring environment you can mix well on anything, but things like comfortable use over long periods of time become really important.

Yes

good point Hahaha

i was also thinking that i'd like to try those krk's everyone raves about, as i have never heard £300-400 monitors that have properly impressed me Neutral

Chin good point i have been known to slam headphones against a wall after a loooooooooong session ....but it does seem some shit hot cans would serve me better than some standard monitors for the same price

plus im almost definetly not gonna be in this room in a year or so so maybe i should wait till i get my new place so i can set things up for that room better...yup think its cans for me
Maybe it's just me but i hear more 'space' in speakers than cans. This is why i'm not a big fan of using cans, though i do use them all the time, though not through choice.

sometimes i feel i can really get going when im on phones tho cos its like when im chopping its at the stage where i dont want anyone else to hear owt like girlfriends and brothers coming in going what you doin whats that where if your on cans you can just forget about the world outside them and get to it Smile
^ Yeah using cans does help me drift off into my own little world cos it blocks all the distractions out n that Smile

Yeah this is why i have to use cans........ "Turn it down Richie!" Teef

Can/speakers are just very different for me. Just like one set of speakers over another.

No no no - I mean, turn down your cans when you're mixing.

I find that I get a much better sense of space if I turn down the cans a fair bit. I'm forever jigging my output around to get a sense of the mix at all levels. I definitely find myself getting a bit up tight (even with a great mix) when it's all really in yer face, and turning it down alleviates that, seeming to give everything more room.

Maybe it's some psycho-acoustic effect cos of the bass and drums being McMassive and banging full on into your face, actually making your head vibrate sometimes... Maybe it is because of the behaviour of small enclosures at high volumes... Maybe it's the behaviour of smaller drivers or some shit summink... I dunno.

But try turning them down Smile
