Be thankful he didn't turn up with his dad Smile

lol i would love to see fresh show up to a show with his dad and have him passing out fish.
isnt adam f's dad alvin stardust or did i dream that?
Big names pull a crowd...it's sad but true.

However much everyone says i'd rather see i good DJ who wasn't a big name is in the minority, sad but true. Many have tried to do the right thing, many have failed (some of course have won, but you are in the HUGE minority).

It's just like politics, everyone hates Labour and Conservatives, but strangly the Green party never get in. (i can't believe i just compared DnB to politics!).

James, you booked some wicked people to play @ your night, but who was your biggest crowd puller, and who played the music you hated the most?

I say, book a big name, and YOU play the 'diverse' set. Then everyone's happy.

btw - i'm sorry to go with the defeatest attitude, but seriously, around my way, you have to get a big name(mainly wobble) to pull a crowd FACT! However crap they are.

Yes, i would love to book all of you on here (and for the price of some 'big names' i could...twice). I'd be VERY happy, but the Blacksheep Bar wouldn't, and the night would last for, well, A night. Smile

I know the general idea of this thread is to say, he(Adam F)should of read the crowd, should of played better...but sadly, however crap he is (now) he's still gunna get booked, he's still gunna be shite and he's still gunna pull a bigger crowd by himself than most of us put together.

:drunken rant over:
i might participate in this more tomorrow...

but b4 hitting the sack i say i rather go to a more intimate club - where there's a lesser known DJ playing the fattest rudebwoyest dopest-ass shit (no more wack-ass for-the-ladies housey dnb - played by thug-looking DJs who can't mix for longer than 4 bars without trainwrecking - for me please) for 300-400 people who have come there for the music and vibes, not for posing, and who are having mad fun, dancing n sweating their asses off and shaking the dj's hand and chatting to him a few lines about the selection after the gig and whatever - THAN to a party where a big name DJ pulls 2000 people in but plays mediocre shit and where u gotta be absolutely hammered to stand the music and where people work hard to convince themselves that they're having a good time because, after all, the DJ is a big name and is selling a big number of records.
not all big names are created equal though, if you have to book a big name to bring the crowds in youre going to get a better set from someone like friction or nicky blackmarket than you are from someone like adam f.
every dj should come with an overhead play-by-play tracklisting while djing. if more peeps were in tuned to the music theyre dancing and vibing to theyd realize that its NOT so much the big name djs that are providing the vibe but the PRODUCERS and DJS who spin them that are. that way more of those peeps would be getting booked.

aaah, the PRODUCERS Teef

Yes I see your point Andy, but in that case might as well do a RnB night??

And yes when I was doing Pressure a few years back, Nicky Blackmarket played and pulled the most people even though. But no way he gets paid as much and he filled the floor not emptied it.

Also you were there and you been before and you know that it pretty much gets full no matter who plays.

Fabio played some good music, so not all "big names" have lost the plot. So if promoter have to book names because they are scarred of no-one turning up then they can get someone who they think still makes an effort.

Anyways I have no idea why I am moaning about promoters this was about DJs.

Just a thought, but if all promoters stop booking these people there would still be a need for parties so then other could fill that gap.

My head hurts now.............
they bn doin that in the states 4evah..at least 3 or four years

guess they dont think wee deserve any bettre Roll

the funniest time was when Roni Sizwe did it and played premixed megamix CDs of old full cycle tunes..seein that old soun gettin the CD dumbplate special treatment was a bittersweet laff

It's about balance with promoting sometimes. Skopes (look at him giving the schpiel after one night promoting properly Teef ) has the right vision.

"Said" night on Saturday in Brixton surely has enough of a following after all this time not to book such DJs? I've heard nothing but good reports of the night in the past, not to mention seeing Adam F on flyers previously.

When I was doing Uncertified (alongside Sean RIP and Dubplate) it was all about balance. We put on a night in a local town without a d&b "scene" so to speak and many failed d&b nights in the past. DJs from D Bridge (before he blew up I must add Wink), Trace, Loxy, Klute, Chris Inp alongside much much bigger names like Goldie, Randall (didn't pull a crowd though), Nicky Blackmarket, Kenny Ken. That was to pull people who wouldn't normally come, and to balance our books a bit. I'm proud of what we did and what we created in Aylesbury and wouldn't change what we did for anything.
hmm adam f eh?

oh well...just another one that falls by the wayside.

tbh theer are sum "big name" dj's that have completly lost their way either now or at one point in the past, and its generally about the $$$...how ever there have always been some that i still have time for and that i still think will eventually turn back to playing realy dnb.

people like grooverider for example....ok his mixing lately hasnt been that great and his selection has been apalling at times, but he does generally play a few tuff tunes in his sets, and i am listening to his shows a bit more often and he is defo playing some of the stuff taht i would expect rider to be playing back in his "prime".

Photek as well....i dont know how a man who has made music like he has in the past can not eventually realise that his recent and current output has been well below par

dillinja.... i also believe that dilly will come back to us one day!

and there are a few more...Krust, Die, Gachet etc...

adam f...no fooking chance...he is all about the money...once he realised he can get booked on the back of circles, aromatherapy and metropolis, he turned to easy street. i mean he hooked up with fresh for crying out loud for breakbeat kaos...fresh is another of those chaps that only see the $$$. He will never return to his glory year of 1995-1996.
adam f is more concerned of if he is wearing a nice outfit rather than playing decent tunes and mixing with panache (i love the word panache so i thought i'd drop it in)

peace

anyone who's seen adam f play out in the last 5 years or so knows how shit he is. booking him on the back of his past glories, which his far more talented dad probably produced for him, is proper mong business.

there are plenty of people who would fill a rave much better. if you need to cater to a non-chin stroking market then get twisted, or hype, or blackmarket. anyone but adam fergawdasake. Lol

See, this is what I don't get, personally....

If it was football, would you play him? No. He'd have been asked to retire, whether or not he scores one great goal every 3000 minutes.

In any activity where there's a 'league' or pecking order of some sort, he'd be Leeds United and have been relegated tiiiime ago, with people like Adam F desperately battling to keep their place in the conference despite winning the cup 10 years ago.

However it seems the dnb 'league' is, well, a load of bollocks.

ok so Hugs
fuck em all.

fuck em!!!!!

Macc has a point though, look at something like House music or even better, hiphop.

you can't be at the top of the hiphop game unless your knocking out hit after hit or dj'ing at the best of your ability.

Look at how quick you fall off the top of the ladder if your not on point...

G Unit is the prime example of that, 2 good years of huge hits, had 3 crap album releases (sales) and then it's pretty much bye bye, move over time for the new guns!

d&b should be the same.

Dinosaurs not allowed.

this is the true-est thing in dnb!

i agree utterly , totally and completely with this statement.

there are only 3 (a-list) dj's that i would be interested in hearing their sets, at the mo....

fabio = quality music and quality mixing...STANDARD

andy c = tune selection really does not appeal to me, but always up for listening to him mix

friction = probably better at mixing tunes than andy IMO, but has better selection.

groove-rider = how many decent tunes will he play before i leave the venue??? maybe he can keep me there for the whole set???

the rest of the usual suspects (not the producers, the rest of the so-called a-listers) do not do anything for me at all, and all play pretty much the same tunes all night long and clang pretty hard.

that's why i just dont bother going to events like that..
its all about the smaller , more personal clubs, where the dj is prepared to take the crowd on a musical journey, rather than throw as many slamming tunes into a set as they can.

it seems to me that for these guys and the crowd they play to on the regs, its all about "the drop"....as many big drops as possible, to gain maximum effect from a crowd of pilled up young-uns (no offence to da youts!!!)

dj's that are doing it for me right now are as follows :

goldie : probably the best selector for the type of dnb that i really like
fabio : seamless and classy mixes
chris inp : good variartion of tunes and nice mixing
fracture & neptune : magnificent lately
wilsh : knows his tunes, and builds a set
d-bridge : quite possibly the best dj / producer at the mo that makes and plays dnb with soul and depth, but with raw-ness
marcus intalex : i love the detroit-y style at the mo with him
ltj bukem : need i say more
doc scott : a bit hit and miss sometimes, but generally brilliant
storm : old skool sets are quality!!!
me : i just enjoy my mixing soo much and love to put decent music together from the whole era of dnb

out of that bunch i would consider goldie, fabio and bukem as the a-lister's even though they dont really play that much at the clowny events that i associate the other a-listers with.
you could say doc scott as well, but i am not, so there!

peace

yes

but the dinosaurs still control the scene

who gives a crap about them anyways?

i, for one, never have, in any way.
not saying i dont give credit to those who truly deserve it....
i know the records they play sell better than some others, but isn't moaning about the old fossils who've gone down the drain a horse beaten to death anyways? just ignore them.

in my opinion, all those promo sheets mentioning "DJ support by <insert>" are such a joke too.
they're not a sign of quality either.
in fact, it's almost the other way round Hahaha
