but you also have to pay for everything :P
bobule Wrote:it doesnt help that nobody buys music anymore, no radio stations prmote anything but the biggest and greatest, studio's are undervalued and closing, venues are ill prepared and out to moslty make a quick buck, promoters dont promote and most sad of all artists cant make art...

yes it does, that system was broken and needed to change:
  • radio stations promote the latest incarnation of the flavour of the month, so that
  • artists think they can't make art without being completely ignored, leading to further the problem that
  • nobody buys music because it's the same bullshit they were being sold last month, but
  • studios are justifiably becoming obsolete because you can build one yourself for under $1000 with cheap soundcards, powerful computers, and cheap vintage gear, so
  • if you put in the time, you don't have to put in the money, and the less of a financial investment made in your art, the less of a financial payback you expect out of it, and in the long term,
  • this should lead to more independent artists with a DIY approach making great art of a high level of quality that doesn't need to be bought or sold to be enjoyed.

i think this is the best thing to ever happen to the music industry. the bullshit is drying up.
i think its more a function of where your living. everyone there is fake!

thats the happy comprimise you have to decide for yourself.

Is it worth being put out and knowing you won't see a return.?.... if so keep putting stuff out on majors. Build your fan base and start releasing little bits of your own with the loot you get from dj'ing gigs you got because of your release on the major.

can be done, just not as easily as one would hope. But rarely are the good things easy Smile

Welcome
i hate to put wind in the sails of a breakage owned label, but that sounds really cool. i think i'd anticipate every release (like i do say, bassbin) and i think many probably feel the same.

and i agree with scart too. i think anyone who allows less than ideal conditions to limit their creative desire isn't driven enough to see his or her ideas come to fruition in the first place.
olcyrus Wrote:At least you have fans and people who appreciate your music

profit? is that based on various gossip or do you know the chap/chapess that handles accounts?

is this typical "fucking cunt" talk?
Oh-arr you're a good lad
Here is a pound note
The stupid bitch
They were made for each other
You should have met his brother
His mother was deaf and dumb
Well that stupid git
Played games with names
And the place he worked
And the women he fucked
He thought he were envy of the music scene
Part of the [choosy set]
Envy of the music [scam]
There comes long hair for the fair
No painters, take them away
Those bastards stripped me bare
In front of all those people
Stuck peanuts in my hair
And all the leaves are brown
I'll be part of the music scene
Envy of the choosy set
Part of the music scare
And arr you're a good lad
Oh here is a new flat
That stupid twat
Made for each other
You should have met his brothers
Real [fuckers]
That stupid kid
Played games with names
All the gigs he'd worked
And the women he'd fucked
He was part of the music scene
Envy of the choosy set
Part of the music scene
Leave a mark on the city
I'll smash your doors down
I'm a demolition worker
A metal construction worker
And behind our cultured vibes
Our affections are turning grey
Yeah, we're part of the music scene
Envy of the choosy scene
Part of the music scene
Part of the music scene
Part of the choosy scene

i have my ways of knowing lol
plus the label owner told me it did quite well indeed

whats typical fucking cunt talk?

by the way, i still make tunes but when you work on something and put it out, people buy it and then the label pocket the money its shit... i love making music but certain people just take the piss.

i love making music full time... but it's not going to be possible if fuckers don't pay cos they think paying out for new fucking shoes/ "promote" (go out on the piss at a club)/ run a night they are doing or something is more important than me keeping a roof over my head.

i love that people love my music, but i think its a piss take that they actually spend money on it and the most i see from that is the odd comment between all the spam.

i know most are just happy to release music, i am, i think it's great that people like my tunes and are willing to pick it up but if theres money it's mine, i earned it and am legally entitled to it.
why not try to get good advances?
tight contracts?
