eqing the 'get ready' break

help!!!!!

it sounds so crunchy, muddy , shitty whatever you wanna call it but the groove on the latter part of the break is so nice and fits one of my tracks really well Baffled

how should i be approaching the eqing off it... ive been trying paragraphic mainly waves q10, setting up god knows how many little notches and so on to try to isolate the bad parts in the frequency, but theres always an element of the (bad, and not bad meaning good Teef ) sound which remains

Chin

you think i should be going for a more solid state eq??
What eq options do you have available?

waves ssl, q10, and urs fulltec & blt < £120 off ebay Grin Grin Grin
ssl allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll the way. don't be afraid to use two three four if you have to - it's still infinitely preferable to q10.

just make sure you don't contradict the work done on one with another (say, boost the kick with plug 1, then on plug 7 think 'there's too much kick' and take it out) Xyxthumbs

make sure each plug improves matters, and use careful cutting first, before boosting.

subtractive eqing..this has got me tripped out at the min

it helps that get ready is just a break change im using carleen and the groovers as my main break which thanks to fulltec and some slight reverb sounds Lovesmilie

should i be using short bandwiths with ssl?? and trying to isolate each bad freq i.e what i was doing with the paragraphic
It is exactly the same principle but better because;

1) you'll - SHOCK - have to use your ears, not your eyes Grin

2) It sounds eightthousandbillion times better than Q10

Personally I'd be scanning through the freqs very slowly with as narrow a boost as possible to find the shit bits, trimming them out and then nudging the cut/q to get the best result. Repeat as desired, then do the same for boosts, and be aware of the way your boosts may negate your cuts (if you have a wide boost for example).

Chin

im getting there

part of the trouble is the harshness seems to be really close to the snap of the snare and its tough finding the balance

same sorta problem we had to try and sort with the soul bro testify break in the eq tutorial thing macc put together. i know that snare was a bitch to get sounding right without cutting the snap out of it
yeh they seem to be quite similar sounding breaks sonically that is
Yeah - shit Grin

There are ways to sort it out, but eq won't do the job alone...

Oooohhh, the intrigue!! Teef

nice tune. the "can we rap" is a bit middy, the other break sounds like it's lowpassed Neutral more highs, more anything!

some really nice editing in there and proper bass filter action Xyxthumbs Yes
lfos lfos lfos .. lfos lfos lfoooo ooos

^ in a football chant style :P

glad you liked it Smile
Make that bline a little more gritty and do more than just "play" the note constantly and it'll be a deep techy choppy roller Grin
yeh i was wondering bout the b line notes wise Chin thought i could keep it fresh building up the lfo editsbut you may be right Smile

Oops should have probally posted all this in the beat ranch section
