What comp to use for sidechaining?

13 Replies, 4749 Views

Have never done sidechaining before as i have never needed to do it but i want to experiment with it a bit.

It looks fairly easy to set up but want your opinions on the best comps to use?

I cant do it with the ssl comp. Can i do it with the Neve 33609?

Have heard a lot of people use it for running kicks through so thought id have a mess around with it. might be usefull for my hardcore stuff Smile
Assuming you mean sidechaining the bass to the kick or similar, then;

It's an absolute nightmare in SX, the VST spec doesn't support it (yet). You can fudge it using surround channels, but I haven't ever got it to work. Search for Cubase sidechain surround and you're bound to get some results...

And no the 33609 won't do it.

i guess you mean doing it with your uad gear?
None of the UAD comps have key inputs (bar the internal sidechain in the 88RS), so no.

You do it a fair bit, dont you TITanium?

yeah the demo thing i saw was using logic so i just thought i could do it in cubase the same way but it seems not Lol
try this out:

it's free and really easy to use. it's not a UAD/URS quality guy, but good for quick sidechaining. and easily done in sx Wink
i use the tc native bundle vst's .. not perfect but it does the job well
Thanks, i will give it a bash Smile
Heres a free one i use now and then that aint bad,

Ableton is great for ease of sidechaining! :P

havent had time to check yet, but will do and report about the worx Wink
I heard it is alright.. The sidechaining is good but it still sounds a bit plasticky in comparison to *ahem* better *ahem* plugs Smile But it is meant to be good... I got that thing off the back of the same lory and I'll try it soon Smile
