Sorted - Expanding the 'studio'

hmmmm.

now then. i am more than happy mixing in the box, as i am sure you're all painfully aware :d

it's time to get one or two decent outboard things though - and i am after stuff that really isn't an itb option. i want, in short;

1) an actual spring reverb to be able to use as a send in cubase. this is a major reason for me considering this Yes

2) one or perhaps two *quality* outboard processors available as either inserts or for occasional 'offline' destructive processing. of course, the purchase of these will be some way down the line :d

i'm already fairly sure that between one or two proper bits of hw and my uad's - plus of course spring reverb - i'll have enough flexibility and quality without having to worry too much about patchbays/routing/cables/power/mix recalls and all the associated shoite that goes with hw (clambering about on top of a rack trying to get that fecking jack in the right socket etc etc Mad Mad ).

i don't have any more pci/pcie slots left, but i do have adat i/o through my rme card. so what i am looking at is something like this in order to be able to pass eg send signals out, through the springverb and back in, all 'transparently' within cubase. is this doable? i've never dealt with adat before.

so, yes, it's true - essentially i am willing to spend a few hundred quid in order to integrate a £30 spring reverb into my setup Hahaha

thoughts, advice etc on what i am considering would be well appreciated!

I would post this up on the uad forum too bob, people seem to know their hardware shizzle on there Cool
They do, yes... I was just waiting for scope to chime in really Hahaha

That would be great. I have always wanted to use my lexicon like this. Would that not require the HW to have a VST interface of somekind?

At the moment I have to send out to HW via a dedicated outbus and back in to an input bus and record. I have set up bus presets for all my hardware.

Scope and Bobule seem to be the main HW heads on here, so I await their knowledge.
yea what you wanna do sounds fine bob and that adcon box looks perfect, in fact i have been looking for a cheaper alternative to the rme ad to hang of my hdsp adat port..... Chin

the rule really for integrating hardware is make sure your soundcard (if you have no desk) can handle balanced and unbalanced connections. its all about the signal levels really.

Xyxthumbs
which is another reason this box looks so good Xyxthumbs it takes care of all that it seems :d

thanks bob!

wow- i had no idea you were *that* far in the box, you really should have a rack with some stuff and board channels, you'll wonder how you didn't go without.. don't get mad about patch cables, tho, they are just a fact of "real" studio life.. get into 'em........ the sound! the sound! the sound! Grin

my trouble nowadays is stereo fx and guitar setups.. trying to take advantage of all that head-exploding stuff in realtime with microphones/multiple cab setups and stuff.. biting off more than i can chew, lol

indeed... one day i will not have to do any editing. just play drums on to tape, record a few bits here or there, play some midi over the top... oh man. i want to do it now Sad2

do they make uad emulations of ensoniq, eventide, rocktron fx yet? -i mean there is a lot of sounds you're not yet getting by just doing uad..
I don't really use many bonkers effects though man Smile That's not why I want to integrate some HW stuff. There's plenty of mental VST fx if I need crazy shit. I'm not saying they are up to the level of eventide et al, but I like 'real' sounding stuff more than anything.

Hence the deep desire for an actual spring reverb Lovesmilie

yep, spring verb is very very nice, my ear probably cant tell the diff. between real and virtual spring and plate because the uads are very good these days.. does a real tank sound that much better? -because i can't tell.. have amps with spring tanks in'em, but to hear drums thru one, i guess we'll leave to you to find out! -waiting for the results.. Cool
if your looking adat to analog then you can go wrong with the 8 X 8 fostex vc8 they come up on ebay and sos for under £100 all the time

when i have space im using one for these for my emu adat out to i can use all me desk channels like Grin

and one of the other reasons i like rhw:edit- pics too big, lemme resize it:
Think i might get one of those adat/analogue converters. Would be very handy
the thing about the fostex is that it is only 20-bit Neutral

the marian thing ist german ya and so will doubtless be of uncompromising quality and efficiency * Teef plus it is 24-bit, presumably with newer convertors, and has auto-sensing of balanced/unbalanced connections, plus two mic pres. while i am sure they aren't spectacular, i am sure they are perfectly adequate.

there's also the 'legendary' behringer ada8000, but it is all xlr, and wiring that bastard up would be a massive pain in the hole. i really do like the look of the marian thing... £225 ish Chin

* please excuse the 'humourous' stereotype

legendary & behringer on the same website, let alone page Lol

fair enough, its a bit old now but it gives you 8 in and 8 out cheap, and as you are connecting old "cheap" stuff to it im sure it would not matter , but i know what a purist you are macc Teef
I insist on the absolute utmost available quality when digitising the absolute lowest quality sound Teef
