if i had to guess i'd say a square wave with a filter sweeping up, but a bandpass filter rather than an lp so it has that kind of hollow sound as it goes up
and maybe more than one square detuned
this could be utter balls mind
Definitely one or two square waves, no detuning I think, with an envelope attached to the filter. Set a high attack on the envelope and play with the cutoff and resonance accordingly.
Might give it a go later today.
dred bAss is just a reversed distorted 303 stab , i have the samples from a 1993 future music sample cd , the same cd valley of the shadows and millions of other tunes were made from,
Its that simple, it can be synthesised but samples are more authentic as the speed change at different pitches
so in this case you need a square wave with a 3-pole Lowpass filter with resonance..
if you want it to be really authentic resample the sound. or make your keynotes alter the envelope speed (and filter cutoff respectively)

p.s. i think the first time i really heard a sound like that used in a hardcore context was on a production house record...and i think rugged vinyl for dnb.

I gave it a try. The root key is A0.
It's extremely basic FM synthesis - there's literally only 1 modulator & 1 carrier. Can't remember the exact ratios though. The original was done on a Yamaha DX7.

I thought it was a reversed sine wav? I'm sure that's what I read.
