"Israel should be wiped off the map"

Roll How often has this bullshit been trotted out in the Western media?

And here's why Israel doesn't want peace with Iran:

Quote:In November 2005 Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Khamenei, rejecting any attack on Israel, called for a referendum in Palestine:

We hold a fair and logical stance on the issue of Palestine. Several decades ago, Egyptian statesman Gamal Abdel Nasser, who was the most popular Arab personality, stated in his slogans that the Egyptians would throw the Jewish usurpers of Palestine into the sea. Some years later, Saddam Hussein, the most hated Arab figure, said that he would put half of the Palestinian land on fire. But we would not approve of either of these two remarks. We believe, according to our Islamic principles, that neither throwing the Jews into the sea nor putting the Palestinian land on fire is logical and reasonable. Our position is that the Palestinian people should regain their rights. Palestine belongs to Palestinians, and the fate of Palestine should also be determined by the Palestinian people. The issue of Palestine is a criterion for judging how truthful those claiming to support democracy and human rights are in their claims. The Islamic Republic of Iran has presented a fair and logical solution to this issue. We have suggested that all native Palestinians, whether they are Muslims, Christians or Jews, should be allowed to take part in a general referendum before the eyes of the world and decide on a Palestinian government. Any government that is the result of this referendum will be a legitimate government.
its exactly the same line that was used to reject negotiations with the PLO until Arafat said 'Uncle' in '89 and renounced the PLO covenant which rejected the existence of Israel (despite the fact that the PLO had tacitly accepted the two state solution since the late 70's), and also the same line used against Hamas because of their charter (despite the fact that they have signaled their willingness to accept the 2 state solution in line with UN 242).

Both Hamas and the PLO are/were asked to repudiate their opposition (in principle) to Israel's 'right' to exist prior to negotiations, but why should they considering that Israel not only denies Palestinian sovereignty in principle, but also in practise by their continued annexation of land and rejection of UN and the international consensus for peace?

Israel and its supporters would have us believe that the reason their is no peace is because the Palestinians and neighboring states refuse to recognise Israel, rather it is the 40 year old policy of the US and Israel of rejection of UN resolutions and the explicit denial of Palestinian national rights which is the main obstacle.

israel should be allowed to exist in peace and prosperity, but only if/when it accepts that the Palestinians have exactly the same rights and ends the occupation and their long running abuse of Palestinian society.
oh ffs....

they are both as bad as each other.

israel pulled out of gaza 3 years ago yet they still fired rockets every day into neighboring kibbutz's and towns etc...

dopnt get me wrong, i fell its totally unacceptable that the right wing jews in israel have been encroching into palestinian land with their settlements.

u have to ask yourself this....

why is the west bank prospering and why is gaza in turmoil?

one answer ....HAMAS

both religions have this "eye for an eye" thing going on.

until that stops on Both sides, nothing will really change.

to be honest i am completely fed up with the situation....whilst i am apalled at the shit that is going on out there, i have 3 cousins and an uncle of mine that have been drafted back in to the army and are in gaza at the mo.....its a nightmare.

i have always felt for the palestinian plight...even tho i am a jew (non practising) and all my family on my mum's side are israeli.
Ive often had discussions with them about the situation over many years, and their answer is always the same.

they want peace...they dont want to fight.
they are not interested in what the right wing jews want.

it is such a beautiful country with unbelievable historical attributes, which is getting ruined becuase of religion.

but hey, thats just standard......something about religion and war...always makes for a cocktail of a non delightful beverage

shalom
I know your heart is in the right place hades, but your facts are a bit off the mark.

Israel pulled out of the Gaza strip unilaterally, and since then it has controlled its borders, airspace and coast, and installed a blockade, preventing most aid, food, fuel etc.. from entering the strip, which is why Gaza is now a giant festering miserable open air prison. Did you know that anyone approaching within 300 metres of the border to Israel can be shot on sight by the Israelis? Have you noticed the constant incursions, house demolitions, targeted assassinations, attacks on fishermen, blocking of medical and other basic supplies?

The west bank is not 'prospering', thats a total joke. It is the subject of constant illegal land grabs, settlement building, shootings, beatings, checkpoints, the illegal wall etc... all the characteristics of occupation which make life there almost impossible for normal Palestinians.

I'm not for a moment denying that there are fanatics on the Palestinian side and that Hamas and other groups use terror as a tactic, but the fact is that until Israel agrees to end the occupation in line with international law, nothing will ever change and millions of Palestinians will continue to live in abject misery whilst the majority of Israelis live in relative peace on land which they conquered and ethnically cleansed.
