...Well, at least as an idea. Smile

I propose this:

http://www.subvertcentral.blogspot.com

- A joint blog with several contributors
- Aggregate-filtered to the highest degree
- A place to share thoughts and dreams
- Anywhere, any time.

As founder of The Dastardly Diaries, and blogging on the Dastardly Exposure MySpace, I have come to find that 1) a PDF webzine can be exhausting work, 2) not everyone takes to the format, and 3) I can't make blogs on MySpace forever - the pages end after a certain size. With SubVersion, anyone on Subvert Central can contribute. I would happily work as an editor, provide suggestions and pitches to artists and labels, and write up what's going down my end.

I realise appropriating the forum name onto the blogspot address is oppurtunistic, and subjectively foolhardy, were I not thinking in advance to secure a spot on the web for such works, and actively involved in promoting DE on forums. If I have to delete the address on request, I will do so.

This development could act as a base for the queries on a "Subvert Central artists page" that was discussed by Statto, cycom, fanu and droid in particular on the forums last year. Wherever it leads, I thank you for reading this and any feedback that comes in its wake.

I'll be kicking off the blog with "For The Night Owls" - SubVersion Stop 1. The posts operate as "stops", as did The Dastardly Depot (home to interviews with Statto, DJ Trax, and Martsman's 2008 Promo Mix, amongst other things). It's dedicated to my oldest uncle, who died of an inoperable brain tumour close to two weeks ago. Users will be able to download the file, follow the blog, and set up accounts once I understand the methodology.

Peace folks, and thanks in advance for any feedback Xyxthumbs

Perhaps a different name? Makes me think of version control.

Sounds interesting maybe you could use wordpress. Even a monkey like me can use it(with some help from divert Wink)

Still better than calling it GIT, though this may be more apt Lol

....ill get my coat
erm, silly question, hows this different from just posting on this forum? not meant to be sarcastic . . . u can call me GIT.

im a lumper, not a splitter Wink

because posting to a blog requires some thought Wink

I like SubVersion. It was suggested by cp_ffm when the original SC fanzine was in progress. It indicates a subjunctive relevance to being, while also referring to Subvert Central. If a hard copy magazine ever came to fruition, I would choose the name SubVersion, because it is sub-edited by one individual, and comes as a small part of the larger SC picture. Thanks for your thoughts though TVG, it's good to have a contrast in views. Smile

Hehe that's grand. I'll stick with blogspot.com as I have blogs I read on the format, and can add outside sources to the blogroll.

I'm a lumper too, don't worry. As Statto said, posting to a blog requires thought. As well as guest mixes, I plan to keep it updated with forum integrations like the keyword system I use - muttleymarked - via roundup posts that bloggers can follow, and keep easily updated with. On top of this, with the Underground Resistance and Subversive Minds subsidization in recent times, it gives writers here a chance to make their views heard - in a more neat, palatable way - rather than backing up their points on an internet forum, or letting their text drift into web wilderness.

The benefit of having editors for the blog means that spam is promoted in the most enlightening formats, instead of having free reign over the forum template, and moreover, not allowed to crowd the purpose of a blog, as it would if every type of content (including throwaway posts destined for the crapper) were submitted.
A blog would also have the advantage that it's accessible to people who are not members of the SC. I like the idea of a group blog, maybe it would give some people the opportunity to blog without the pressure of maintaining a steady output which would be required for a personal blog.

Re: the name - I too thought of the version control system when I saw the thread title, but that's probably just an association for people working in software development but for nobody else.
Hahaha @ the number of people mentioning svn and git

Quite right Yes

I can think of multiple personalities which I could alert by simply following their blog.

I think strength in numbers. Anything from gig reviews, to scientific navel-gazing is feasible for the contents page.

Case in point: I've never heard of it. My reasons for the name are in an aforementioned post. Mainly an emphasis on the "sub" as the proactivity device for contributing.

Ahem yes Lol

What is the version control system, may I ask?

I'd say Scope could install this here without too much stress? Make it a subdomain http://www.blog.subvertcentral.com in wordpress and just export>import the existing blogs contents?
I'll reply to everyone tomorrow if I can, thanks for the group patience Xyxthumbs

I tried blog.subvertcentral.wordpress.com and it didn't accept. The .wordpress domain extension cannot budge, so it seems. Baffled

So, the blog address is http://www.subvertcentral.wordpress.com . I hope that's feasible for it. I'll add in the header picture once I understand how to, then it's plain sailing hopefully.

Thanks to Statto and safetyboy for having faith in the blog by following it, meanwhile Smile

yup. super easy to set up, takes about 15 mins. I can help with any troubles, I spend most of my working life building/administrating WP blogs Smile

I'm not frequenting blogs much either. I ensured the resource would be durable by the projects I've done in the past. Namely, The Dastardly Diaries Chapter 1, and Reprise, then awake. The minimix series, "15 Minutes Of Fame" can intertwine to give a variation on the SC Affiliated efforts, and work alongside posts for new SC Podcasts.
Muttley Wrote:Anything from gig reviews, to scientific navel-gazing is feasible for the contents page.

Yes This sounds interesting. I'm also not really a blogger, but I like the idea of gig reviews. Would be great to have people rate the shows/DJs etc. I also like the idea of DJs being able to rate the promoters that book them, the cities they visit, and the people they meet. Grin
