i still don't know which break we are even talking about here. 'that photek break' doesnt really narrow it down.
The break in the most tunes in Modus Operandi...(I think...)

I wont give up Grin
its not that one that some people use is it... thats been used sped up and i know photek used it. the slow one with the big kick thats all like bum bum cha bum bu bum cha tiki

No I think Fracture is talking about this one (2:00 onwards)

Snaper: Ni-Ten-Ichi-Ryu is an amalgam of breaks most definitely. The percussion hit (tambourine?) layered on the snare can be found on the "these are the breaks" thread on here and there are quite some more oneshots layered on top.

Lol THAT'S the one Cool

This has become somewhat of a mess. Since I started the thread I might aswell try to clear things up.

Of course there are a couple of breaks he used. But the one *I* was wondering about is the break he used a lot on Modus Operandi.

Example:

One might say, there's another break Photek used a lot on Modus Operandi. He switches between the above mentioned break and the latter on Smoke Rings.

Basically he always used variations of those breaks (plus some more). They sound very heavily processed (especially in Smoke Rings).

Actually I just asked out of interest, because after all those years believe I never came across the source of (especially) those two breaks.

i can listen to that all day long. Lovesmilie listening to the break though i would never guess it is sped up from 33 to 45. but rings around saturn sounds pretty good played at 33 too. do that occasionally when im trying to get my head around the beat pattern.
I see...ive tried to slow down the track....but no idees...
So! I've found something!

Story :

1,5 or 2 years ago (I can't remember exactly), I was working on a hardcore tune...(like the old Thunderdome stuffs...yeah, I know. It's lame...)

By the way. Last night I've found the Logic project files in a backup DVD (I was searching for an installer...), with my recorded channels. (Those days I used an Akai S2000 with external HDD and CD.)
When I've checked the channels, I've found something. A BREAK, what is extremly similar like "the Photek break".
Im absolutley SHURE, that all of the samples what I have used in that project, came from old Akai sample CD's, so the break can't be sampled directly from a Photek tune. (...at least I never sample from DNB tunes...)

So here is the link :

Check it out...
definetly sounds like the one used on smoke rings
Yeah. But I still dont know where from...

The problem is that I got a lot of sample dics, around 120-130, akai, emu and ensoniq format mixed...and I dont which onw used when I was worked on that hc tune Icon_sad
theres always the chance it couldve been taken off a photek tune and used on the sample CD (does sound pretty clean, but its still possible)

any idea what year the sample cds from?
Boh...

Ive got discs sincs '94...

I'm almost certain this is sampled from a photek tune. Also the snares roll is repeated twice, so probably there wasn't enough "clean" material to sample from. In the ninetys sample cd companies were so desperate to recreate the "dnb sound", that they sampled a lot from known artists.

But still, I don't think it's the break Fracture spoke about. But it's "the other one" Lol
yeh the more i listen to it the more i think its sampled from smoke rings

in order to id that break we need to find out what that dude eats for breakfast, take a gander in his pantry to see if he eats some crazy ass shit, or if it's just all peanut butter and cream of wheat.

we can check out the icebox for push-pops. just don't forget to check the cookie jar.

maybe it's not a jazz record afterall.
