Cool
ableton rules ... I write all my tracks with it ... and couldn't live without it.
from time to time I have to open cubase projects from mates for rmx purpose and I hate it.
just 10min in cubes drive me nuts ! everything seems so circuitous to me.

and since the "max" integration it's getting more exciting 4 me !

I also use Live for DJing . and with the APC40 controller it's the ultimate shit for me. [120%fun]

I learned a lot from this site.

Is there anyway to draw notes the length I want without changing the grid size / without going out of draw mode and resizing etc?

I'd warm to it if I could. It's a hassle otherwise.

I to would like to know this!
Hold down Ctrl (PC) or Cmd (Mac) while drawing the note to make it whatever length you want.

EDIT (again): this works in Draw Mode and normal mode, where you double click to create a note. I pretty much only use Draw Mode for automation.

I also recommend getting savvy with the key commands to quickly resize the grid.

(I also recommend I try my own advice before I post it)
Speaking of Abelton..... Maff Pls Pls check pm box. x

Got sent this link which has been handy for work - an ableton tip a day.

the more i use abelton the more i think im going to sell cubase, should get £400 ish for it...

deep

and hopefully will be fixed soon, not had any major issues but not done much too involved yet.

saw how easy it was to sidechain stuff recently, boh.
A neat tip I learnt the other day.
When you're running a synth and want to free up CPU, you can freeze the MIDI track, hold down Ctrl and drag the MIDI piece to an audio track, and it instantaneously bounces it to audio (with any effects on). I think this works with all frozen tracks, although haven't tried.

yup when you freeze the track it creates the audio files... it freezes the clips in session view as well... so you can drag out the individual clips
lovign ableton ! so intuitaive and great.

Was plying in reaktor with a drum box, and you can just set an audio input on an audio channel to reaktor, and record all the jamming as audio, all perfectly quantised, and even stops and starts on the beat, with the launchpad can just tap one button to start and stop recording, very very slick.

Might well sell cbuase, it seems so dated now, only prob is the 7 years or so of old projects...

Maybe just do a clean start with ableton??? or bounce everything vaguely nice down out of cubase ? might even be a good way of progressing.

Get yourself an *ahem* version of Cubase, sell yours and move to Ableton Xyxthumbs

Help on Ableton please. Creating MIDI data clips on any channel in the arrange window not the clip window, the only way I can seem to do it is press record and play the sequence in on my keyboard then edit that newly recorded clip. Surely there's a way to create one without doing that?
Nah, not using ahem versions anymore. Looking at ebay ill only get up to £200 for it so may as well keep it for that. I do find the ableton mixer a massive PITA so will prob gravitate to writing in ableton and mixing etc in Cubase. Worth £200 for backwards compatibility tbh.

Not the right person to answer you query, never really used the arrange bit yet tbh...

So ive got a query as well, is it possible to 'explode' one long wav to mulitple 1 or two bar loops ? that would be awesome !

cheers

Not sure I fully get what you're saying, but can you not double click on an empty space to create a new MIDI clip? Or is that only on the clip window...

Drag the wav into the arrange window. Highlight the 1-2 bars you want, click and hold where the clip is and drag to a new space. You now have a new clip which you can drag back to the clip window if you so desire. I think there's also a button to chop to a drum rack, creating a new loop everywhere you've placed a track marker, but I haven't used that yet myself.

@ Wilshy

Make a selection in the region of midi track you want the clip to be in.
Right click at the top of the highlighted selection and 'Insert Midi Clip'.

cool - good start, but what i want is like 30-40 individual loops to play with, rather than cutting them out indivdually. Can you do that? (i.e. autosplit every bar or two) ?

Cheers
Dont think theres any function for that,
i'd just zoom out to the resolution u wanna cut the clips in
then click on ur first cut point ctrl e to cut and then arrow right ctrl e to cut again.......
after a bit of quick button bashing job done

I missed something as simple as that. Roll

Cool. was hoping to automate it. Knowing how slick ableton is there is prob a way.

The ones from last night were only short so no bother.

I have a 24min live 808 & 303 jam i need to chop, could be a pain...

Cheers tho !

Like a twat I have hardly used Live since purchasing it at the same time as you PDX Oops
However have still been knocking out the beats on my existing set-up.. I never intended Live to replace this, but to extend fun-ctionality with loops etc I have created using R+R (a combination not be sniffed at, but most here will Hahaha )

Nice juan. It's hovering on my buy list now I've seen 2nd hand examples for around £700 on ebay.
