Ableton: Do any of you guys use it to make beats?

Yea got mine for 650 euro from a mate, great box
Its taken over my beat making altogether, great for filthy bass too.
Its got a particular sound though which frustrated me for a while but have just been goin with it in glee of late. Have you heard Autechre's 'untilted'. Thats pretty much all machinedrum straight outta the box with maybe a few bits of monomachine here and there.
Good listen to hear its capabilities.

Paradigm X Wrote:cool - good start, but what i want is like 30-40 individual loops to play with, rather than cutting them out indivdually. Can you do that? (i.e. autosplit every bar or two) ?

Cheers

this is a much requested feature..

you can do it pretty quick though using the keyboard shortcuts.. select the point you want to split ctrl/cmd e then select all the clips and drop them on the session view selector for dropping them in session view..

Grin Awesome!
Stretch Notes is always handy. But I never knew you could actually drag the markers to reverse order.

cheers
found the midi pitch shift plugins last night, was looking for that Lol

Loving ableton, more i play with it the slicker it gets.

Love the way you can record little 2-4 whatever bar loops from vsts instantly, and instantly trims to suit, and records to perfect bar lengths, perfect for bouncing out loops from reaktor drum machines etc.
hit up http://www.youtube.com/user/cosmcosm or http://cosm.co.nz for loads and loads of ableton tips
Nice one Cube! Good tutorial.

Ableton is pretty fracking awesome. A hell of a long way to go, but so far so good
Delta showed me a few bits on Friday - so I messed about with Ableton over the weekend. It's good stuff and so quick to get ideas going - the effects that are built in don't seem as nice as the ones in logic though. Is there any way to get the logic space designer/tape delay etc. working in Ableton?

Rewire with MainStage would be the simplest way, if you want to sequence in Live and use Logic fx/instruments. Logic and MainStage have to be the ReWire hosts and Live the client, not the other way around (obviously for some brilliant reason Apple pulled out of their ass).
Think I might just stick with logic. I don't really see much advantage in Ableton so far. Though it is enjoyable for making loops, I find that the arrangement bit is the hardest part of making music (for me) and I think Logic is probably superior in that regard.

Can someone tell me if/how you can bring all your loops from the session page over to the arrangement page, please.

Thank you very much.
Click - drag.
Nice one matey!

Hahaha
APC users. Should I get one?
Have looked at the launchpad, but I want some faders for controlling levels as my live stuff isnt overly 'scene' launch based..

Can the 8 faders have different banks? cos 8 isn't enough, if i can press bank 2 or something and have that 8 move to 9-16?
Yes you should get one. Teef I use mine all the time.

And yes they can bank up/down. Nowadays they can control return tracks as well.

Mind you, the Launchpad's 'button fader' method for controlling volume is kinda cool.
if by some mad chance someone didn't have an original copy of live, still work fine with the apc?
My 'demo' version works with all midi controllers. Maschine included.
Have ordered it. Smile £299 cheapest i could find
