Modular drum madness!

#1
i am just popping in the modular synth world and i simply love it!!

i have put together a little improvisation (first and only take all raw without any fx, the distortion comes from overdriving the filter).. i used a very very minimal and basic setup for that! only one triple VCO, one filter and 3 envelopes.. the rhythm pattern is triggered from an analog drumsequencer..
i dont have three VCA's that is why you hear a constant tone from the vco but it is nice somehow.. and it is dirty..

Yeah - just checking - sounds lovely so far !

We had that modular synthesiser in the college where I did my Music Technology masters. Really wish I had more time to play around with sounds on it during the year.

Nice one Sub, digging the build up near the end of this Grin
Could be some nice possibilities for a live show with this too.

the live thing is the main idea behind my modular research! Grin

That analogue sound. Simply isn't replicated in the digital domain.

Xyxthumbs real nice dirt and rumble on that clip. 100 times more interesting than a VA synth.

here is another quick one...

http://www.syncopathicrecordings.com/mpg...adness.mp3

i put this together in ten minutes so it is not a musical statement! Grin i did only use the doepfer dark energy monophonic semimodular synth, nothing else, no effects or anything..

in the end you can hear the lovely warm sine wave the dark energy is producing when you turn up the resonance of the filter to the max till it is selfoscillating!

What's the Dark Energy like? I'm tempted by one but one osc I would find limiting regarless of the routing possibilities.

Think a Mopho would suit me better.

new tom oberheim synths too.

Homerdrool

Pretty steep for a mono synth but sounds lush (some soundlcips on gearslutz).

Non midi version with all the additional patching looks Lovesmilie

i am very happy with the dark energy, it sounds amazing! all components are extremely high quality.. vco.. filter.. envelope.. 2 lfo's.. all top notch!
it is perfect for bass, drums, leads, bleeps, fx n stuff.. you are right, one vco is not much, but the modulation possibilities seem to be endless which never made me missing another oscillator!
also the dark energy comes with a usb to midi to cv/gate interface!
i never tried the mopho, but i cant say anything bad about the dark energy.

here is a nice demonstration video of the dark energy..

Bit expensive for my budget. Dark Energy, DSI Mopho & Evolver are about the price range I'm looking at.
