Roots and Culture is what it is. Rastafari influence on the music which came from Mento, then ska, then rock steady was always a jamaican thing seen, but when rasta entered the scene things changed in using the format as a medium to push forth thoughts and manifest life.
My references to hear some roots and culture are , CULtURE, Inner Circle ( before Jacob Miller passed , even though its rockers its roots ), Gladiators of which Clinton Fearon the Bassie still plays and is based in Seattle, Misty in Roots, The Twinkle Brothers. The Congoes Isreal Vibration.
See there wont be any lovers rock or dance hall in there. This is the Conscious part of reggae IE., The Poor Righteous Teachers, Public Enemy and X clan to Hip Hop.
Cheers.
