Yeah he seems like a prick. I didnt like how he was talking to that lady, like he tryed not to directly answer her questions as he was just trying to sell himself versus trying to spread any real help towards others.
Bill hicks? Not really seen him before... looking on u tube.. guess hes a comedian?
No idea why, but the video started at 11 minutes for me, and I tolerated until 16. The speaker's tone, tenacity and theorising is at turns flawed, patronising regarding yardsticks, and diluting points to distill in his intermediary vision.
Dogs do not give unconditional love, for instance. It's a populist myth. Some dogs kill their owners. Their affection is based on behavioural training and pattern recognition, and the lack thereof, just like humans. Which inadvertently requires tension/release (good=treat / bad=no walk), therefore conditions for dogs' affection are put in place, making the continual love factor invalid in his constructed argument.
Going by his logic, too, humans who never disagree are unconditional as well, regardless of the fear issue. The gap between reasoning is that animals can't talk back, but they still bite, make noise, shit on the carpet in times of remorse or estrangement - a figuration transferrable to speech, tone, fault, fact and development, all abilities rendered pretty mute by his opinionated take on societal ecology.
