its good price has gone up to a massive $60 lol but well worth the money. midi still not got ctrl d though :ggrrr: there are work arounds

I recommend try it it will only nag you to buy it will still fully function as "they are nice like that"

its all good in this business of rep

give it a go Wink http://www.reaper.fm
Have they sorted it yet so you can use the left mouse button for stuff like 'drag' etc like you do in cubase?
Really like reaper but the mouse thing did my head in after years of left clickingLol

i've never had a problem doing anything in reaper with a regular click??? my problem is that it scrolls left when i swipe to the right! (i wonder if that would work the right way around in OS X Lion...but my macbook won't run Lion and i'm not sure i'd want to.)
I'm sure the dragging and some other stuff was on the opposite button to what I'm used to and even though Reaper is highly customizalbe I dont remember being able to configure the mouse buttons? Chin

It's not a huge deal tbh.. just hard to get used to using the opposite button for certain things.
yeh i seem to remember having to use right click a lot when drawing stuff in to the piano roll on reaper??
learn the key settings

most useful functions in reaper are crtl / alt / keys

its very good when you get used to it not having to piss around with menus

it is a curve but after a while you get used to it.
Just reading some of the updated features and it says something about 'redefine your mouse behavior with mouse modifers'

Maybe this is what I was looking for. Will read up a bit more about it.Smile
is it really that the demo version is the same like the full but only this nag window?

i downloaded the demo today and i will try the next days.
Is there any type of CV / cabling routing between devices in Reaper?
"Any track can be a bus, and any track channel can be sent anywhere else. Sends are are breeze: just drag from one track to another. Sidechaining is a breeze: drag a send from the source to the target, select the plug-in knob you want to sidechain, and press a button.

Because REAPER doesn't have track types, you can use an audio gate to write MIDI triggers right on the same track. Or, render a virtual instrument from MIDI to audio as a new take. You can insert MIDI track controls at any point in the signal chain, to control MIDI pan (or anything else) both upstream and downstream of a MIDI plugin.

Every item has handles for fades, snap points, volume, per-take FX, and more, so you can work intuitively without constantly switching tools or keeping track of what mode the mouse is in."

don`t know if i get you right.never before used reaper myself.
That sounds about right, thanks Xyxthumbs

Reaper users, so could I take an audio file and use it to modulate / change a particular parameter on a - for example - soft synth? Based on "you can use an audio gate to write MIDI triggers right on the same track" that sounds about right.

Yes I could try it for myself and I will, given some time.

I did that once I think, long time back. ReaGate has a midi note send (but only one value). I think there's a native way to do it though... and there's the JS plugs which I believe have some kind of midi generating fx... never toyed with those though.

And hit alt+r to bring up a routing matrix - I think it's a good way to visualize routing, although I've only ever used it when splitting frequencies (which i don't do much now). Quick way to route one track to another is L click and hold on the i/o button on the track and drag to the recieving track (a little plug icon should appear).

reaper is really great.just tried it for few days and it`s really easy and fast.great daw!
I'm determined to get to grips with Reaper and start using it as my main audio sequencer/daw. Tried the demo and realized it wasn't as straightforward as Logic and Cubase were so I just put it to one side but I WILL return!

I like the name. Grin
i get a free upgrade because i bought 3 quite recently but i'm hesitant to upgrade...anything i should be worried about??
a friend of mine told me that there are might be some problems with reaper 3 projects running in 4. he uses it as his main daw for years so i think he is quiet informed but dont know myself. just started with 4.
I haven't had any problems, just one project that had a huge amount of (probably almost 20) ReaEQs that wouldn't play proper (pretty sure it's because of the real-time FR update). Bounced all that to a stem track and it's been fine.

You should be able to back off to 3.0 if you run into issues, I would imagine (don't quote me though).

How and where do u start to learn about Reaper?

I'd love to get into it but it seems quite the task when starting from scratch.

the manual and learning by doing. the fact that every channel can be everything is a little confusing but i get used to it very fast.

i started producing with reason, then logic platinum (if i could afford apple i would use logic.), then sonar and now i think i have switched to reaper.

Thanks Lament. Flicking through a couple vids now whilst taking a short break from the studio.
