Korg ES-1
Korg EA-1
Roland MC-303
Roland MC-307 (should arrive by the end of the week)

Yes, I've gone off on a groovebox tip.

Was craving hands on, no laptop music fun and definitely getting it from this lot!
Yay, so much fun to be had with no screens. Im not going back (at this point)

Chris, how you like the shruthi, ive got a standard one. It needs fixing. I sold it, posted it, turned up not working, posted it back and the case was all broken too!

Bloody post office wont compensate as i cant prove its value.

Bastards

Got a cool new spring reverb but not bought any synths for a while. Skint Icon_sad
So what do people think of the new Korg Volca jobbits? Built to a price-point, clearly, but they look kind of fun.

Also, those of you playing around with lots of individual hardware boxes and effects - what do you use to mix them all on? Just a good old-fashioned knobs-and-sliders mixer?

they look like good fun.

pretty much - I use a 20-channel Tascam MM1 keyboard mixer which is rack-mounted, the main output of which goes into my audio interface. It's a shit way of doing things tbh, but it keeps me happy for now. I tend to record anything from the outboard gear, and arrange everything on the laptop.

Ive got the best workflow ive ever had. Got a topaz 24 track inline mixer, which means i can record 24 tracks to my digital recorder, then flip a button (well 24 buttons!) and then the recorded tracks all go trhu the mixer.

So we have a few jams down, pick the best one or two, then have a few jams back thru the desk doing mutes fades and fx/dubbing, its loads and loads of fun!

Heres a vid of us doing the mixdown stage, weve not actually got round to videoing a proper boxes jam yet.

Nice! Pretty much where I want to be in a few months too.
Feels like I'm starting all over again at the moment and I'm actually excited by making music again.

It'll take me a while to get everything just how I want it and to learn all the ins and outs of my new kit but getting to that stage will be lots of fun along the way.
The 307 arrived yesterday and on just a 10 minute play to check it worked last night, I can already see that it's pretty deep in what it can do. That's the one that's going to take the most learning I think.

And Ben, it looks like you're mixing down in a broom cupboard! Hope there's a bit more room behind you guys there.

really good. I was a bit apprehensive considering I've basically bought someones DIY kit-project, but it seems well-made, and sounds decent.

Is the bandage a status symbol?! Wink

What delay are you using? Assume it the delay with some filter. Reminds me of a 90s effect I heard on a readers demo from The Mix mag in 1994. Love the resonance.
got some outboard gear on the cheap:
Alesis M-EQ 230 Equalizer
Zoom Studio FX 1201
XIX CP1902 Compressor / Limiter
SPL Vitalizer

May have accidentally bought a Yamaha RM1X today.. and got a Digitech Studio Quad 4 effects unit earlier in the week.

Got a couple of laptop stands on order which I'll be clamping on my studio desk to make the most of the space there.
The ES-1 and EA-1 are getting loads of use.
The MC-303 will probably be sold. The sounds are fun, if a bit dated but I got the MC-307 pretty cheap and it does everything the 303 does plus loads more and quite a bit more intuitive too.

Got the effects set up on my mixer sends, loaded up all my own samples in to the ES-1 and all is good.

Also decided not to sell my Nord Micro Modular! had it for 14 years now and despite not using it for 3 or 4 years, I got it working with the hacked OSX editor and one session playing with it again reminded me why I need to keep it.

Next I'll be plugging in the EMU again...

right - I've completely bypassed the computer now. I shifted the MV-30 and a couple of cheap units which I could not get on with, and bought a maxed out MPC2000XL for dirt cheap (sub £125 Grin)
and some golf clubs

Ha!

Looking good. +1000 on the 'no computers' thang.

Ive not bought anything in ages, although I did finish building a very cool triple bandpass filter thingy.

Im trying desperately to not have to sell my 606 and/or korg spring reverb, but times is hard Sad2

edit just noticed that 'arty' compressor, I was looking at one v similar on ebay a while back...
maxed out 2000xl for £125?? Icon_eek

I seem to be really lucking out on eBay atm - Korg DDM220 Super Percussion, which completes the pairing there as well.
Have been looking for one of these for ages.

My friend has made the most insane CL purchase I've ever heard of.

Roland TR-707
Roland Alpha Juno 1 + case
Yamaha MSX computer (google it)
Yamaha QX5 sequencer
Fostex 8 chan 4 bus mixer
Fostex Portastudio 4-track tape recorder

$100.

wtf

Getting the MSX on loan as soon as I find a way to hook it up to my TV.

I wouldn't mind the disk drive out of that, it would fit my Yamaha SY85 Wink

ffs - that pisses me off. Do you know how long it took for me to track down a 707 that was less than £300, and then some wanker flogs it for the equivalent of £30. That is a nice little haul, and I hope your friend gets some serious mileage out of it.
