iPad synths

Got to say that the iPad just keeps on giving with synths and music production tools.

Cassini is smooth sounding, great modulation with loads of independent lfos. Nice chord creation screen.

Animoog is just unique. Deep, spacey, lovely filters and that modulation once again.

iMS20. Well it's a classic recreation. And a damn fine one as well, sounding from what I've heard very similar to the real thing. Screaming filters, drums, sequencer, patch panel. Can make a whole tune in this although to me not as friendly as the Nintendo DS version.

Say what you like about the iPad but for a couple of quid a pop, I have a new synth. Roll on Waldorfs effort which may see the Blofeld sold.
yeah that Waldorf one looks phat.

I got carried away with the whole iPad ideal recently when trying to figure out the best way of doing live stuff, despite having too much gear already but just finding it hard to simplify (to get a good balance of flexibility/portability). Was on the brink of buying one but then calmed myself down and didn't plunge us even further into debt when I realised I generally despise non-tactile interfaces Grumble

Don't get me wrong, they sound amazing - my bloody iPhone sounds amazing - I just find sliding fingers over an elctronic breadboard wholly uninspiring
Forgot to agree completely about the cost factor there by the way, which to be fair is barmy considering what you get for your money in comparison to computer software.... still assuming Ableton et al will surely have the nous to realise that porting their software to platforms like iPad and dramatically cutting their prices would surely stand them in better stead all round - as opposed to selling far less units to morally-infallible, committed music nuts at £800 a pop. Make it a portable, sub-£50 app and I'd be amazed if half the world didn't suddenly take a chance on it. Then they (software co.'s) would be linked forever with Facebook and so on, thus they could eat champagne poached quail eggs for eternity
yeah, a local guy here, who was big into synth hardware, has pretty much switched to ipad performance

Eek
There is some really great stuff available for the ipad. It is tempting to pick up a second hand ipad 2.

Completely understandable (cost/mobility/convenience), I suppose it's just down to what you feel comfortable with really. I just can't get past the thing of having no physical feedback involved whatsoever Neutral Prob narrow-mindedness due to growing up with hardware samplers, synths and so on, but for me it feels quite bizarre to simply not have any of that tactile response or interaction - it just feels detached and as a result - not at all musical.... Roll
I am lost in a world of iPads. Maff you can bung any class-compliant USB midi interface/keyboard into the iPad Wink

Oh yeah AudioBus is going to come along soon and give you live audio routing/recording between multiple apps, making the iPad a live performance powerhouse...

Thanks for the heads up on Audiobus Icon_eek

I haven't got an iPad, just an iPhone but it's an amazing piece of kit for audio stuff.
Just got Impaktor which is amazing, one of the best apps I've had for any iOs device so far.
You place your iPhone/iPad/iPod Touch on any flat surface and translates your drumming to its own sounds. It has over 100 preset sounds, all physical models of drums and percussion instruments plus a few more tonal sounds too. You can fully edit all the sounds and save as new sounds too.
It's velocity sensitive, so the results you get are very articulate and you can load up 6 channels of sound and record loops with it.

It's incredibly easy and immediately obvious how to use it but is just so much fun and so nice sounding.

Here's a video, although the guy has got the sensitivity up too high so it's picking up the vibration of his voice a bit too.
