I Don't See The Hype...

Ok. Fun thought for a thread.  You can list & post any music related artist, band, producer, dj... ANY genre of music, any era of music, etc, that you just don't see the hype in.

Of course, you can state your case against, and are free to exemplify pure, unadulterated ignorance on WHY you simply don't see what the big deal is.  Cool?  Wink

Feel free to criticize via a veil of ignorance of  um.. sacred cows , exonerated throughout music history, even.

Example.. I don't see the hype in Elton John. Edgy in the 70's sure, but nothing but old lady music now. Grandma music.

You get the geist. I'll go first.

Wtf was up with Bananarama?  I don't see it.  Asides from being ladies, what was the appeal?

Discuss.
Ok.. sacred cow mutilation.

Led Zeppelin.  I might like ONE song, but otherwise, I think they were annoying. I get the psychedelia thing, the blues riffs, the chugga chugga, but.. not too impressive. Robert Plant's jeans were too tight, and Satanism is only cool in high school.  Different generation I know, but I've never seen the hype. Overrated.

personally I don't see the hype about Cannibal Corpse apart from the Hammer Smash Face song. Extremely average brutal death that were neither as out there as Morbid Angel or clinical as Suffocation.

^^ I agree. My only connection to Cannibal Corpse is seeing their cd's sold @ Best Buy years ago.. a big box chain retail store. I thought it was odd. They also sold Cradle of Filth cd's & such... lol. In Best Buy. strange.

speaking of which.

Cradle of Filth? um... coloured contact lenses, tight, restricting outfits with lots of buckles, and capes. Um..

I missed out on the whatever that was about. I don't see it. at all.

^^ I hate that Bananarama song I posted. I always hear it on Sirius satellite radio in the car.. on the "1st Wave" channel.

Too many to mention really. Now with over 20 years of following (popular- and notso popular)music I have witnessed lots of those.

Just a few that popped up in my head immediately : Burial, M.I.A., Richi Hawtin as Plasticman post 1994 (the whole minimal techno thing in fact), Photek, all the "The" bands in the 2000s, Dubstep, Wu-Tang-Clan, etc etc.

See there's Squarepusher.

Dude is a GOD to some people. The entire "idm" (PUKE.. I've always refuted that term) jungle thing, Warp Records putting out his tunes back when, etc. Sure, a few decent tunes, slices & amen abuse, melody, funk.. great.  Life changing?

Not in my eyes, nor in my ears.  Do i see the hype in Squarepusher?   Port Rhombus is great, as stated elsewhere, but I lost interest there. Its "prog", its.. wankery. its..  To think there are families of bearded people sitting around the dinner table, children in tow, eating family meals to the Squarepusher discography.

Squarepusher is electronic DAD rock.   ^^ Sweater beats.

Not deserving of the hype.  Sorry Sir Jenkins.   Long may your beard protect you from the troubles of the world, & edm.. or something. LOL.

Squarepusher..  out. sorry.   Wackit

p.s... if I hear anything else I like from Squarepusher, IF ever the thought passes to listen to his tunes again, I'll let you know.  Smile
