1988 hiphop

There were so many good hiphop LPs in 1988 that I went for something else instead in the songs of the 80s thread. But these all need props as well, so...

NWA's Straight Outta Compton LP didn't get played until well into early 1989 by Tim Westwood

But I do remember hearing 'Gangsta Gangsta' on Dave Pearce's show in '88

I honestly don't think that album even hit until 89. Which still blows my mind that it was '88 because in hindsight the slickness and production value on it really sets it apart from anything in that year, notwithstanding how uniquely pioneering and paradigm shifting that year really was in hip hop

From start to finish that year is without a doubt the year of years for the music.

Here's something:

or perhaps you're both right...

discogs gives vinyl TPs and cassette version as 1987, but full release as 1988

This is another important album of that year: Schoolly D - Smoke Some Kill
