ok, here i am, i can get my hands on a JV2080.
is it worth 500 euros or not?

primary use would be (DUH) to use in a studiosetup for making drum&bass.

I'd be tempted to say not.... Baffled

I borrowed a JV1080 (v similar) off a friend for about 6months and never liked it that much....even tho it was probably the mainstay of most d+b producers for most of the mid 90s. Pain in the ass to use in my opinion Neutral

I then bought an Emu Morpheus for about £150 (250 euros) - quality kit with deep programming and easier to get on with (6 outputs, 197 Z plane filters and effects - once programmed think Future Sound of London crossed with some mid - late 90s Reinforced).... i use it for an ambient/soundscape machine, so you might want to team it with one of the regular Emu Proteus synths for the other normal sounds...

Just my opinion, but since i am the only person to reply, you have to do as i say Teef

However, I do think if you buy something you are more likely to stick with it and JV synths do have good sounds in them - they are just embedded in the Roland OS Icon_cry

Good luck.
in contrast to what dan is saying......

yes undoubtedly !!

can make some lovely strings and great for cymbals

you'll wanna get one of the free pc editors to hack around with the sounds tho.....
hmmm Dan, now you made me curious to that Morpheus machine man

let me speak up whats in my rig so far :

access virus a
yamaha fs1r

those are my hardware synths.
would a jv2080 be a worthy addition or not Wink
you should be curious about the morpheus - its like an old school junior trilogy atmospheres in a hardware box.... very deep programming if you want and good sounds even if you only program a little bit... the fact that its stuffed with 197 emu filters that morph between the 2 sounds that make up each patch (all interchangeable and you can have different filters on each sound) using the mod wheel is even better.... strings, odd sounds, basses, leads, rhode type fuzzy keys, lush pads, kits (all souns are dual layer and reversible with adjustable loop points) all with a warm mid 90s good looking/kruder and dorfmeister feel. its a little beauty and the fx are nice too.

loads of character and would go well with the fs1r and the virus....

you may want 'normal' sounds with the stuff you have, but i love what i can do with a morpheus, supernova and sampler (got years left in them). depends if you want unique sounds or stuff like immaculate barry manilow pianos etc... i'm not that bothered with real sounds, so like making my own... prefer to sample something if i need a specific sound or just experiment with my synths.

seems the Morpheus can be gotten cheaper too.
if you see one, could you knock on my door mate?

in the meanwhile i'm off on a search too. know any place i could preview patches?
the JV can wait Wink
hmmmmmmmmmm

what? Eek
Hehe, Scope's not so sure about my advice...

I can see his point as the JV does have very good sounds and more expansion capabilities with the cards etc - I guess I was just getting a little excited about my Morpheus Cool. Sometimes its quite nice to buy something that is cheap yet unique as it makes you work a little differently and learn more as opposed to just using a few of the 1200 presets on the JV (good as they are).

Probably what you should do is go for the JV2080 now as 500 euros is quite a good deal, but keep an eye out for stuff like the Emu as people sell them quite cheaply (I could send you some Morpheus sounds via MSN later on when i get my pc and see what you reckon).

Again, depends what you're after - horses for courses an all that Cool
arghhh no, dont use the jv presets, thats why you need one of the pc editors.

buit its damn powerful.

the morpheus is good - im not questioning that at all, nbor that it would be of benfit to you having one..... but given your existing setup id say the jv will give you a broader range overall

think youd be happy with either to be honest. as dan said also though you can expand the jv with cards considerably (the 2080- has 8 expansion slots !)

best bet is to try both out b4 you make the decision

wise words

jv2080 + easy to use pc editor = awesome sounds

i just hated the interface when i borrowed the 1080 Mad

cheers
the interface of the 1080 is sparse compared to the 2080, plus indeed there's loads of editors for the 2080 out there.

that and the cheap cost plus the expansion options are very good.
i can remember when the unit cost like 4 times that much....some years ago.

anyhow Dan I would like to hear some of those sounds of the Morpheus, so when you get your pc etc sorted, beam me up !! Wink

thanks for the advice guys, now im gonna talk the price down on that thing Hahaha
ii have an XV5080.

Mine is bigger than yours :P
