Making yourself cry appreciation - Macc - 2nd October 2007

It's been a shit week or so, there'd be little question about that.

It's also funny how sometimes your music really really mirrors how you're feeling. What started off as an angry thing has now - still as part of the same tune - turned into something that just has a proper poignancy to it. It's like I have been - angry at first, cooling to... bleak.

And it just suddenly hit me while listening to it, the way this part goes over that part, and the particular notes and everything.... And it just resonated so fully with the totally Neutral mood I am in (not anger any more), I just suddenly had a few tears in my eyes.

It's so nice when you get 'that' feeling out, then it comes back into your mind, which spewed it out in the first place. It's like some feedback loop or something, and it kind of overloaded for a second.

Yeah yeah, what a girl and all that. But let's not forget that while I - we - can babble on about compression and plugins and blah blah, we're all in it to make music. And when things like this happen, I know that's exactly what I am doing.

Being miserable can be a good catalyst for music definitely. My lady is on the other side of the world and it's getting to me a bit this week. So it's inspired me to write some brutal noise and speedcore (no clipping mind you)..

im with ya brudda! i had a moment like this last week, when the death of one project was getting me down a friend played a few notes that blew my head off and next thing i knew a new project was born.

it hits you from nowhere and moves you in a way you cant explain, music is the best!

Making yourself cry appreciation - choronzon - 2nd October 2007

Hmmm ...I kinda miss that feeling, I have a lot Id really like to channel lately and I have been feeling like Im blocked at being really productive for some reason, kinda due to health problems/life,,, but Its frustrating... Mad
I know I will get back there, I just kinda want it now. haha. I dont ever stop thanking the universe that i can listen to music and take it in nor do i stop thi thinking about creating and how i can get that sound i want (its not always so easy in electronic music espically when it comes to technique and getting good drums, hhahah). I just want so badly to create that space , for myself but more so, for the listener, everytime I hear something that really moves me I really feel even more of a drive to create, so that i can give back to the music how it has given to me.

^^^^
wow i sound really cheesy. sorry ive been thinking about this all night while listening to really key songs after failing at mixing and finishing a track that has been needed to be done for months, then i read this thead..hahaha
had to go there.

Making yourself cry appreciation - Macc - 2nd October 2007

Making yourself cry appreciation - markgabba - 2nd October 2007

Yep i have done this a few times, I didn't realize at the time of writing the notes/tune. Then when playing it back the next day it all clicks and it is like reading your mind/mood from that day. powerful stuff Icon_eek
That thing you just did some horn for me is one of them bob, was feeling quite down and pissed off at the time i wrote the main notes and i can see where it all came from when i play it back

I can think of much music that moves me to tears, but I have yet to write anything so evocative. One day, I hope.

On the other hand, I love those moments jamming with other musos, where somehow we've nailed it and and we don't know how we got there, but it's happening and we can't believe how good it is. All I can do is laugh when it happens.

Making yourself cry appreciation - djfada - 2nd October 2007

Surely music is the universal language of emotion

Was interested in hearing this in relation to your post.. agree with your sentiments, although I do it solely for myself.. as soon as I consider what other listeners will think/feel it fucks me right up!

Making yourself cry appreciation - Macc - 2nd October 2007

Oh most def while doing it, I do it for myself but the concept of universalness ( is that a word?) of emotions/beings makes u realize your doing it for others as well, I mean espically when you think about how listening to others music effects you, and all though the artist may not be aware their writing it for the listener they are. Smile

hahahahh sd....,,,hahahhaah...Shit its not a mp3.. Im so ghetto. Oops

It was really late sory m8,,Ill search for an mp3 when i get home, Id share my myspace, but thats just as ghetto right now and the player on there sucks.

Making yourself cry appreciation - SETI - 5th October 2007

yes! -well i'm not at the stage in my life where i need kleenex to help me off a comedown, more like something that kicks me into a glorious, fist swingin' spittin' rage is what i'm after, kinda similar but diff. emotion, same release Xyxthumbs

Making yourself cry appreciation - nayf - 9th October 2007

when i'm feeling miserable I always get the urge to write.
It's well known that manic depressives make for the most creative people, Spike Milligan for example, so a bit of sorrow aids the creative process.
