I sincerely hope you aren't doing 6 dB with L1

11-13 avg RMS is a bit vague (and makes a noticeable difference loudness wise) Which was it?

I think if you're doing it just to get loud, then yes that is pretty much teh ghey...
But when used as a musical thing, um, yeah a musical thing is the best way I can describe it then yknow, let it chill, some people dont mind it when put into the right context, Venetian Snares Kru in the house although thats mostly just hard distortion.
I have no idea what im talking about

I hear what your saying Bob,and if it compromises your principles then don't do it. It's not like ppl are hating your tunes because they're not as loud as Fresh's latest (master) piece,is it?
But for me,I've realised I want to sell a shitload of records & need 2 do what the masses want so have to get the record as loud & catchy as fuck, pretty much has 2 get the crowd going mad in the 1st couple bars or forget about it!
For me that means big, loud, simple drums that smack the hell out of a club soundsystem along with huge basslines with loads of midrange processing for that 'drug-induced' hysteria effect and simple arrangements so as to not confuse the dj's too much as they're not the brightest bunch (me included)
But for me I'm completely happy to do that & always wanted to be a bit of a superstar anyhow so don't mind the change in sound or direction if it brings financial rewards.

i need to check what my rms is on my tracks, but since we're on the subject will someone listen to my stuff and tell me what they think (regardless of the mp3 quality)? i try to get my stuff as loud as i can without compromising the production.

aim me and i can send a 320kbps...
Well, I heard a tune or two of mine on ESB's show the other day, and although they were coming in one ear (busted old headphones) and in mono anyway, they sounded pretty fucking fat to me (really good actually consdiering the dial up stream quality ).
So, fuss over.
But if you have to do 4 to 6 dB of gain reduction to get an avg RMS of 11, you really need to take a look at your mix, IMHO

Your honesty is superb.
KvR thread looking at a track from the new Muse album - http://www.kvraudio.com/forum/viewtopic....05&start=0
Peaks Maximum: 0.00 dB left, 0.00 dB right
RMS Maximum: -1.47 dB left, -1.72 dB right
RMS Average: -4.61 dB left, -5.27 dB right
Blimey.
Also includes a demonstration that it's actually quieter than a Merzbow tune...
how the fuck do they get it that loud?
'There's no such thing as selling out just buying in'
Chuck D
Packing as much mono signal in as possible, compressing and limiting to within an inch of its life, removing all dynamic content, peaking at 0dB all the time etc etc...
WHY the fuck do they get it that loud, more to the point?
Don Cherry Wrote:Every human is blessed in her or his life with one love (passion), no matter how long it may last. This Absolute love will last in one's heart and soul forever.
well,i can understand why and to be blunt rock music & d&b really suit that 'make it as loud as possible' ethos.I just need to know how 2 make it all as loud as that & still sound clear and energetic.
I mean just bunging waves l2 on the stereo masters isn't enough, surely

Making it loud is one thing, but surely all the time and effort that went into playing well, recording well, playing with dynamics and emphasising sections, having impact etc... All gone.
I'd imagine they used all the tricks in the book on something like this - bottom up compression, parallel compression, multiband compression, straight up full band compression (probably 2 or 3 comps staged), multiband width adjustment (probably prior to the comping), limiting (possibly several, staged again)... Oh and probably some eq of course
I'd still like to hear the mastered ones against the original mixdowns at the same subjective level to see which is better though. Guess where my money's going...
