what artist have you sampled the most?

i'm curious to see where you guys turn to for samples. i'm not quite sure who i've sampled the most, so i'm going to take a shower and think about it.
predictably, i think it's herbie hancock. :P
Equally predictably, Lalo Schifrin. Or Bernard Purdie. Or Winston Clifford.

Or Clyde Stubblefield. Oops

Hmmm good question... for the first few years I sampled anything and everything from all over the shop.

But probably have to say parliament/Funkadelic Ive also sampled roger troutman/Zapp quite a lot too.
well, obviously all the 'classic jungle breakbeat' funk and soul drummer that macc mentioned, among others....

but other than that, i really can't say i gravitate towards sampling specific artists consciously....i just go through my vinyl (and occasionally cd) collections and look for sounds and samples that would fit the tune i'm working on....i guess i gravitate towards stuff made between 68-76 the most, but it's not by a large margin....i've sampled stuff from multiple eras.

well, what a useless post this was in this topic..... Teef

i couldn't be any more ambiguous.

i don't sample consciously either - i just give the track what it needs. i guess part of my intention with this thread was to see if people in any way felt more musical affinity (from a creation standpoint, not a listening one) with a specific artist or artists.
It would have to be Artie Shaw for me. Love that cat. Mostly for hip hop tracks tho. I like a real jazz swing to the hip hop. As for DnB I like to use breaks, but other than that I don't sample a whole lot... if I do it's usually some obscure korean or japanese recording.

Rod McKeun's stuff has some bits that I have used and liked, Lonnie Liston Smith at times, and I have a ton of Martin Deny records that I want to sample at some point.
