Not sure - although in a sense most eq's do that anyway, that is, boosting a freq makes the rest relatively quieter. This just does it in a more visible and audible way.
That is to say, in a sense you get more boost for your money as you get the desired boost + a cut across more of the spectrum - so you only really need 'half' the amount of boost.
I don't like it though.

i had most of it on a very narrow /high q , its a bit of a mare to use

having a quick bash at this now..
these unholy god-awful resonances are a bloody pain, i know it goes right through the break but its giving me more trouble with the snare than anything else at the mo.
seems the more i get rid of the resonance the more i loose the punch/clang of the snare 
anyone else having this problem, other problems?
please discuss :d

Yeah I found a couple of the nasties and tried to pull them out a fair bit. Really noticed how eq affects the phase and wasn't really sure how to compensate.
