So...

The time has come.

Next month i'll have my very own Macbook + Logic.

Question is: what cans does do I purchase? (monitors are NOT an option)

And what keyboard (if at all) is it essential I own? Smaller the better ideally.

I've an external soundcard already - Echo Audiofire2.

All help and advice much appreciated.
Why not PM me?

in your case i'd go for cheap. your not live performing or gonna be the next mozart on it right?
i got someone a *uch*behringer*uch* keyboard couple of months ago, had a try at the shop in it actually felt better than my m-audio radium. it was either the umx 49 or the umx 61. I would def get a keyboard if you wanna make music on yer puter, but for your purpose an expensive controller wil not give you a lot more. IMO
Id go with Beyerdeynamic dt 100`s they are the most used studio headphones for a very good reason! you can get them at play.com the cheapest

The Novation ReMote SL is hard to pass up. The keys feel great and the Automap controls are too handy.

beats are there to be broken http://musicindevon.org/
i much prefer the senheisers over the beyerdynamics for the money.

for keyboards don't touch m-audio.

the korg midi controllers are pretty neat imo
yes i agree, m-audio suck balls. i replaced mine with a an edirol pcr-300 (roland) - top job!

bit too pricey for me tbh. looking for something (can be second hand) around the £100 mark.

what’s your experience of them both?

never going near m-audio after all my soundcard troubles!

they don't really need one, if that's what you mean Smile they are fairly low impedance, and the echo thang drives them plenty loud Yes

dt100's are like sm57s - workhorses. good for vocalists doing takes and that sort of thing, but i wouldn't mix on them. they are decent for isolation, so you can't hear much coming in from the outside... unfortunately you can't hear very well on the inside either Teef

for mixing electronic type stuff and all that, you can't go wrong with the 280s. they are lacking in some areas, but they translate very well indeed.

see above lorry Smile

go into a shop and try them if you can, but i think you know where most of us lot stand here...
just to add to the can-fight... Teef

beyer dyn's dt880, got em for well.... 16 or 17 years now and they still sound so good! semi closed, and translate really well

When i'm on the road, I use this one, simply because the fact that you can roll it up means It's by far the most portable but it's pretty shit in terms of velocity response to be honest. The fact that it looks like a toy means you'll also look like a twat playing it. Teef

all you need now is a pop-up book occilloscope
Lol

thanks for that Xyxthumbs
I always used akg k240df and then tried to switch to sennheiser hd280, which I never got used to. I still prefer the k240df, though they are severly lacking subbass (but I don't mix on cans entirely anyway)

the overall sound is much nicer and more precise on the k240df though, IMO

Someone mentioned these to me actually, it's also funny you brought the bass thing up as he said exactly the same thing.

Will take half a day out soon for testing I reckon... (being the expert I am)
