Definitely check FWD out. Go on a night when Hatcha or Youngsta are playing :)
just listened to the first mix, it's some crackin' stuff!! i thought it actually lived up to the hype. i kept getting flashbacks of being in 1996 and listening to tapes of coldcut and aphex twin and other assorted mid-'90s electronica that my friend hooked me up with, not so much in the drums and bass, but more in the atmosphere and the dry production.
if i were to make music like that, where would i find an audience for it?
I got the second mix the other day... I thought the first twenty minutes of so were great, especially the tune that comes in around 10 minutes and the one that comes in around 13 minutes with the rhodes chords. But after that I began to drift off. The beat work was nice but hardly special, and aside from that it was all wobbley two note basslines (which worked quite well when there was more going on in the tune than just beats and bass) and none of the tunes had anything that distinguished them from the last. Definately the genre has potential, and the tunes I liked I really liked, so I'll go and check out more stuff for sure.
It's basically everything I liked about Roll Deep style grime with none of the annoying MC-led stripped down stuff.
my favorite labels that i've been buying on site. dumpvalve, big apple, hotflush and bingo.
What's your fav Big Apple release? That's one of my fav labels too.
i have the loefah ep on apple. sick sick sick. indian and jazzlick are tunes.
Yeh Red E.P. Is nice. My fav on there is "Rank". I prefer the more recent releases tbh. The Loefah EP is great, all about "Life Dub" on that release.
You know I heard that Big Apple Records the shop has closed down :o Random or what ;/
rank ruuuuuuuuuuules.
red got me at first but the bass in rank is so badass.
i can't wait to check out these mixes...
Where's it sold out from ken?
Anyone know what's happening with Big Apple the shop? They are still online, but I've heard they have closed down the premises. :/
