Help dealing with Phase issues

Hey fellas,

Could do with a little help here, I'm using omnisphere for the pads on a track I'm making and I'm running into phase cancellation problems. When running the tune in stereo it sounds great with a nice full stereo image, but when I hit the mono switch the pads pretty much disappear. Perhaps part of the problem is the Chorus Delay module on Omnisphere, as turning the depth down on it seems to make the problem much less apparent, but then it loses a lot of the richness and width of the pad when running as a stereo track and that was part of what made the particular sound so appealing.

What I really need to know is if there are some steps I can take to reduce this problem... or is it something that I shouldn't worry about so much. The reason I ask is because when I check other peoples tracks they don't seem to suffer from it so badly, but still maintain a nice rich stereo image. I can't help feeling there is something fairly basic or obvious that I'm missing.

Any help and advice appreciated Smile
random suggestion... try disabling the chorus delay, and add http://www.voxengo.com/product/stereotouch/ (which is free) I have had some good results without phase problems..

It is worth trying to get things working in mono if at all possible.

sure...

but if its a stereo source and a big part of the reason it sounds like it does is becuase its in stereo... why mono it?

thats really the situation where id favour stereo over mono

I am not saying convert it to mono, just that when you listen in mono the sound doesn't dissapear... It, of course, will not sound as it does originally, but it should still contribute something if possible..

I did do a search before posting the thread but couldn't find much particularly relevant, then when i posted the thread it showed that topic called simply 'phase' down at the bottom as a similar thread and a lot of what I needed to know is in there too. Probably a broader search might have been better.

Anyway, what you've given me there is great stuff, cheers lads, definitely pointing in the right direction now.... bloody chorus! Lol

And cheers TZA for the headsup on that Voxengo plugin, I usually really like their stuff will definitely give it a shot.

many thanks
