This is the result of a collaboration with another drumfunk producer I know. Took quite a while to finish but we got it done in the end. Few weeks later, I find out about this forum and decide to post this topic.
You said drumfunk Icon_eek

Haha safe for the listens people
Heavy!!!
Coming back to you with my honest opinion...
Some of the more blantantly jungle elements I'm not feeling at all...mainly the ragga vocal samples and the timestretched ones in particular. If you stripped them out (and a couple of snare rolls that really annnoy me) then I would love this track.

I think the reason all of the above grates on me is because it captures the 'jungle' sound that I've always hated.. the darker/less gimmicky/more serious stuff of the same era is where it is at for me eg this track (and that's the last time I'll link this tune this year Hahaha )

Please go in all dark and demented - no gimmicks Grin

No not at all. The term 'jungle' covers pretty much all the 'DnB' (as we now generally call it) from late 1992 to 1995 ish, I think I explained the rest in the original post, but to clarify.. I dislike most of the heavily ragga vocal sampling/ 'dread bass'/ timestretch for the sake of it type of thing, particularly from 94 onwards. I know you're young so it's difficult to put in a nutshell... at the time some called the stuff I liked 'Darkcore' after the hardcore music that it and 'jungle' grew from (but I have always thought of it all as jungle, both good and bad) ...it generally wasn't as obviously following the blueprint of the last big dancefloor smasher as lots of the horrible 'jungle' was.. in fact most poor DnB music has done so ever since.

Taking 1993 as the point of focus, I particularly was into the likes of:

Doc Scott
4Hero
Rufige Kru
Neil Trix / FBD project
DJ Crystl
Wax Doctor
Photek
Source Direct
LTJ Bukem

On labels such as

Reinforced
Good Looking
Face Records
Bang-In Tunes and many others I can't be arsed to type!

So open dicsogs.com in one window, Youtube in another and copy and paste those 1993 tunes for your listening pleasures, if you're interested.

Here endeth the attempted lesson Oops
A great example of the (good) dark jungle sound I've just farted on about, also being one of my all time favourite tracks:

The way it develops.. the contrasting light and dark... and when this tune came out nothing had ever had snare rolls like it. Shit jungle then picked up on snare rolling and did it to death Icon_sad
Why didn't I just say listen to the oldskool hour of Equinox's Sci Wax radio shows to hear the real goodness
