So...

I was playing around with Re-sampling last night.
while my sampler slowly re-sampled a file, I decided some stuff up about 8-12bit samplers out of curiousity.

After about an hour of reading the "you don't understand the crrrrunchhh 12 bit X because you have obscure sampler Y" I was totally ready to give up.

so the best argument I could find was the detune and the converters, nobody wants to be wrong about having bought a 12-bit thousand dollar sampler from 1987 with ten seconds sample time in 2010. theres got to be a better reason, right?

Then I read a post about the SP-12's/SP-1200's SSM2040 analog filters, and found this....

i have an akai s950 for this very reason, not used it much but i plan to, i only paid £15 for it though Smile so selling it would just be pointless
quick addition -

read a lot of posts on recording breaks on 33RPM LP's at 45 RPM's and at +8 pitch with the SP [and others] in order to maximize it's sample time.

I didn't think about it at the time, but playing that super fast sample back at much slower speed is basically downsampling it.

Great news given that my sampler takes literally hours to re-sample something.

nice.

I would love to have an 8/12bit sampler on hand, just ain't payin a grand for one.

yeah, i used to use the whole sample from tape (lol) with hi speed dubbing on then slow down again when i had a whole 1mb ram. Crazy how far we've come.

S950s come up for peanuts on ebay now and again, just dont think id ever really use it. I have an S2000 which is a bit too clean.

you can get some mean distortion though if you clip the input when sampling

great for dillinjaesque dutty subs
i borrowed the powerlead from my s2000 (unsoldered it) and put it on my s950, now its a foot rest, the 950 makes a got monitor stand Wink all i need now is a fair light sampler to use as a seat and im all set

shift+3,load pitched up sample,s hift+5, F4, enter tune=-100, shift+6, F1, adjust tune , tweak the freq: and reson: values.

freq:88, reson:4 you'll start to notice the filtered distortion.
