yep Sly was in it.

But Ray Liotta,Harvey Keitel & the Terminator 2 guy more than made up for his lack of acting ability.....& he actually didn't look that bad amongst such talents.

oh & Robert DeNiro was in there briefly & once again proves his superior acting abilities 2 the world.

Yeah i remember the one now Sly is fucking awful yet again but still not a terrible thing, hopefully he has retired from being an 'actor'

took me a couple watches 2 really appreciate though but once it fully clicks then u recognise the genius involved.

Yes

bad film, love the soundtrack too, although i didn't see the need for the rza to be in the film as well Wink

.............and some people think the film is too slow Roll

watched hitchcock rope the other night....still amazing.
Talking about the Rza being in films ......... Scary Movie 3, not only is it possibly the worst film ever but to have the whole of the Wu, Redman, Ja "I'm a Twat" Rule, Macy Gray and plenty of others in was totally pointless.

RZA makes a cameo in "Ghost Dog"

yeah i know, guess he derserved at least that for compiling the whole film score.
That Scary Movie3 looks funny,I'll check that when it's on dvd.

I wouldn't bother, you will be wasting your time.

Keep an eye out for a film called Shaun of the Dead though, we had a trailer for it before the film and we were still talking about it after watching Scary Movie .... tells you how good that was then.
but I liked parts 1 & 2 & I hear this one is better than those?

No way, i don't see how anyone could say that. I went with 4 other people and all of us said how bad it was.

There are a few good jokes but overall very disappointing.
btw have u seen the trailer for 'The Village' ?

Looks good.....from the same guy who did Unbreakable & Sixth Sense....

nice!...I rented it and still can't decide what was worse to sit through...the head pounding shot or the 9 minute+ rape scene!...I thought the flick overall was a treat to watch...critics have passed it off as irresponsible and degrading but HEY, that's real life
5 suggestions....

1. Stalker
2. Solaris (Tarkovsky's original)
3.4.5. Kieslowski's "color's series"
a)Blue
b)White
c) Red

how do you know that's real life?

have you ever been raped and brutalized?

i will never get why people think that a movie conforming to their PERCEPTION of real life is something in its favour.

REAL LIFE is not like real life, fer crissakes.
sorry...give your DELICATE perception of rape Wink
i haven't seen the film...so i can only guess that the critics are implying that the rape scene was gratuitous...and that the whole pretense for the film, was to bookend that graphic rape scene...

i think that there are different contexts to the depiction of those kinds of scenarios...and sometimes they can be read as misogynistic and opportunistic, and sometimes as legitimate narrative components...it's hard to say until i've seen it.

i mean, i for one loved cronenberg's "crash"...which also has some disturbing sexual subtexts...but at the same time...they didn't seem to me to be gratuitous.

and about "lost in translation" i didn't see what the fuss was about? i still think that anyone who considers this a RADICAL departure for bill murray isn't familiar with his oeuvre. if you follow murray in every wes anderson film he plays that exact same character with subtle nuances...the TONE of the film shifts it into a more comedic personification, but the essential character is that world-weary, sad-sack, dry, person. that's who bill murray has ALWAYS been. see peter venkman for crissakes!

secondly...i didn't believe in the foundation of THEIR relationship AT ALL. so they exchanged a few witty exchanges...i couldn't believe that they were what the film wanted you to believe they were for each other. i also didn't believe that scarlett's character ever had much of a foundation with giovanni's character in order for their estrangement to even be palpable. they seemed like radically different people...in order for her ennui to have an impact, i had to believe that she once had something with giovanni...but i didn't.

i also thought the context of the japanese setting and the stereotypical depiction of the japanese people was a little over the top and quasi-orientalist/racist. it created this fetishistic, broadly drawn backdrop against which these two white characters could have their estrangement highlighted. i mean, i GET the whole "lost in translation" theme...but i've been to japan many times...and it seemed to be overdrawn and over-exaggerated, losing any subtlety.

it was like japanese people wearing the equivalent of "blackface". playing it up for the benefit of a western audience.

in the end...i thought scarlet sums up the film's project when she talks about her own lack of direction...and how every girl goes through a "photography phase...like a horse phase". to me, that film was the equivalent of sophia coppola's "horse/photography" phase. not nearly so insightful or original as she thinks it is. and rather self-indulgently pat.
i was impressed by some of the techniques applied to shoot it. they had to build a custom gyroscopic rig for some of the shots.

1970s paranoia fans take heart, today i purchased 'the parallax view' and 'the conversation' (price £9.99 Xyxthumbs), both having been issued on region 2 dvd for the first time very recently e.g. conversation only came out last week i think.

yes. i loved the fact that when you feel you have some parts of the narrative pieced together, something else would occur to disprove it.
