Nice article. What kind of demands do you think the uk movement could make?

This is a particularly good idea
Quote:No public money for private lobbying. A company that receives a public bailout should not be allowed to use the taxpayer's own money to lobby against him. You can either suck on the public teat or influence the next presidential race, but you can't do both. Butt out for once and let the people choose the next president and Congress.

I guess I was in a bit of a dramatic mood there But it's still true Btw, if you haven't already, go and watch "Inside Job". Very entertaining (I felt like smashing something afterwards ). There's another large protest scheduled for 12th November in Germany (in Berlin and Frankfurt) - its purpose is to encircle banks with huge amounts of people
I see the propaganda machine is in effect, St. Pauls having to 'close' for safety reasons even though the main protest isn't infront of the building.
The City Of London is a strange place. Its a place of its own, seperate to the United Kingdom (or is that just one of the 'bars'), like a registry office for all the countries in the world, with its own rules & regulations and negliable council tax (everythings funded by the big institutions), and its own private police force. Implicitly slagging off the protesters for not being "hard enough". Police should remove his ass from bed at night to have him make thermal photographs of the tents. droid Wrote:The end of Breton woods in 71 signalled the end of the new deal approach to fiscal management and if it had been implemented when it was proposed in 72, we wouldn't be in this mess now. Great piece about the Irish protests. Good to see Adam Boulton picking up 'they're a bunch of Nazis' meme from this thread:
"So instead Iâd like to talk about something rather more primal and petty and childish, which is this; that anyone criticising it, so far, has looked like an arsehole." http://www.realreview.ie/?p=416&utm_sour...n=occupied
Just watched that interview by Adam Boulton for the first time, what a dick
I don't get that attitude. Marking protest as non-relevant, just because it's not carried out to the extreme? A bit like asking someone, whether "his heart is truly in it", even though he's not using weapons and taking hostages Great article, btw.
Interesting interview with the Bishop of London:
http://www.guardian.co.uk/uk/2011/nov/01...-direction It seems the occupation is definitely having some effect in getting the issues talked about seriously. droid Wrote:Thats twice I've seen this 'tobin tax' referred to on television now - This Week last night and the news this evening. No mention of it being limited to currency conversions though, rather a more plural 'robin hood' tax levyed on all financial transactions. Have I misunderstood something?Ornette Wrote:droid Wrote:http://www.rollingstone.com/politics/new...s-20111012 Regarding the wall street occupy, I came across this link that seems to be 'their' demands of what they want, some sort of retort of sorts to the media's need for a one line soundbyte which does seem to be an impossiblity. Slightly off topic here, but it's all related down the line.
Someone told me this joke this morning and it made me chuckle: . . . . . . . .Some years ago a small rural town in Italy was twinned with a similar town in Greece. The Mayor of the Greek town visited the Italian town. When he saw the Palatial mansion belonging to the Italian mayor he wondered how he could afford such a house. The Italian said; "You see that bridge over there? The EU gave us a grant to build a two-lane bridge, but by building a single lane bridge with traffic lights at either end this house could be built". The following year the Italian visited the Greek town. He was simply amazed at the Greek Mayor's house, gold taps, marble floors, it was marvellous. When he asked how this could be afforded the Greek said; "You see that bridge over there?" The Italian replied; "No."
